Japan has doubled its defense budget, scrapped decades-old limits on arms exports, and can now sell lethal weapons to 17 countries, all under PM Sanae Takaichi. She has explicitly warned of the Chinese threat to Taiwan, which sits just 100 km from Japanese territory. Article 9 of Japan's post-war constitution renounced war entirely, it was written by American occupiers specifically to prevent Japan from ever becoming a military power again.
