Question though, if the mortar bends, surely the building is not stable at all

And what about structural integrity and elasticity in 20 years? In 50? Seems elastomerers have shorter and shorter life span nowadays. I assume this material have excellent lifespan?

That statement is profoundly true. Japan's construction integrity is a direct result of being a nation constantly facing seismic risks. They have continually developed highly earthquake-resistant buildings, a necessity born from history. The tragic lesson of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake (Tōhoku): The buildings largely withstood the shaking, but the subsequent tsunami took countless lives and everything else. Their focus on construction excellence is about survival and resilience. It's truly world-leading.

Test it in heat before spreading it out. Japan does not have a huge longitude and seasonal ocean cycles cool the summers down. Take Austin Tx as an example, it might not work. Be selective and be adaptive. FYI, The video seems to be more China than Japan

The Japanese had to travel to Chile to learn about its buildings and why they didn't collapse during earthquaks In Chile, more than 8,000 tremors a year; the buildings must withstand all that movement throughout the year and endure an 8.0 magnitud earthquak without any casualties

My fellow humans. It is not a problem with technology of materials. Never was. You can built an earthquake-proof structures even with wood. It is, as it always was, an economic problem. Cost-benefit analysis.

@grok, can you verify this videos content about the flexible concrete?

False, this material is barley used and when it is it’s added retrospectively to older buildings because it costs over 10x more than regular concrete. Japan’s construction relies on shock absorption, energy dissipation and flexible, strong materials such as steel and wood.

I guess this is just colored like concrete, but a silicone epoxy or other polymer with a fraction of stress strength of concrete

日本の建築技術の問題点はコスト高でそれが海外ユーザーに全く理解されない点です。 ほとんどの技術がオーバースペックと海外では理解されます🥺
