Moore: Telling people who have worn the uniform of this country, who have been willing to pay the highest price to be called American—people who have done things that the vast majority of this country have not signed up to do and wouldn’t sign up to do—and now looking at the service they are performing and saying that maybe they’re not fit to serve—hearing that come from somebody who was never willing to take that oath is very rich. And as a veteran myself, very offensive, because these are patriots. These are people who are willing to sacrifice something on behalf of this country with one simple ask: that the country does not forget that, does not forget the service they did, and does not forget their family members. That was our one ask. And that is not being honored right now with this administration.

Because I think it is very important, since you represent the largest military community, for your voice and your constituents’ voices to be heard right now. Jacobs: I talked to one family resource counselor who works with families of deployed service members who told me that right now things are chaotic and in crisis mode at levels she hasn’t seen before, or in many, many years. There is so much stress emotionally and financially on these families. I was recently at an event for military children, reading them a book, and this 8-year-old autistic kid whose mom was deployed was struggling so much because he didn’t know when his mom was coming home or if she’d come home. Our service members know what they sign up for. They sign up to sacrifice for us. But it’s our job to make sure that sacrifice actually is for a purpose, that we have a real strategy and a real endgame. Right now, none of that is in place. Donald Trump won’t even answer simple questions about whether this is an ongoing operation, whether it’s ended, whether troops are leaving, or if the strait is actually open. Rebranding this war is just insulting to our troops who have been there, and especially to our troops who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

It means so much when there are fans there and there’s a home-field environment. I look at the guys that are on our team right now, who have been through so much and are such quality football — really good football players — more than that, but just quality people. They’re the type of people that maybe some of the people who are talking about them knew them better, would be all for them, and support them no matter what. Ossoff: The president is sending out fundraising emails to his supporters featuring photos of American service members in flag draped coffins returning to their families after being killed in action. It's the most callous and disgraceful disregard for the sacrifice that these service members have made. It gives the impression that the president and his team really do just view those who wear the uniform as pawns. It's completely disrespectful and completely unacceptable. And in Georgia, we're a military state. We are proud to host some of the most important defense installations in the country. We are proud of those who serve and those who have served. And that kind of disrespect for the military does not go over well in Georgia.

We need accountability before reconciliation. So if you’re at the Justice Department and you know you’re violating the law, you probably don’t want obstruction of justice charges brought against you.

The question is whether or not the elections that we have here will be meaningful ones—whether the people will actually get the opportunity to express their views on the policy direction of the nation. And so again, it’s all about power—whether it’s gerrymandering, weakening the Voting Rights Act to take power away from people who the people in power now think are not supportive of them. It’s all about the acquisition and the use of power. And that’s one thing that we on the progressive side, on the Democratic side, have got to get used to. It’s not a bad thing for us to say that we want to acquire and use power. Doesn’t mean we’re going to use it in the same way that Republicans and conservatives have—in the negative way that they have done it. But Roosevelt wasn’t afraid of acquiring and using power. Johnson wasn’t afraid of acquiring and using power. That’s what we have to be about. And so, fighting back the way in which Governor Newsom has, and folks in California, by putting together Prop 50, is exactly what we have to do. We’ve got to fight for this.

They cannot be seen attacking the message because that makes them look bad, so they attack the messenger. There will never be an uncontroversial messenger for challenging the structures of power keeping wages low. Secondly, I think my presence at someone who was a waitress… I’m not supposed to be there according to them and I’m not bought. There’s a real class aspect to this. There is a lot of people who think if you don’t make a lot of money, it’s reflective of your intelligence and your capacity as a human being. And of course, I’m a woman and I’m Latina. My mere existence is subversive in the place that is am. I also don’t act in a way that women are supposed to act in a society like this. You’re coming at me crazy, I’m not going to be deferential to you.

And so, whether people have a D, an R, an I, or whatever next to their name, rent is still too high. Your paycheck still doesn’t stretch to the end of the month, and you’re still worried that the boss—or the people running this country—don’t give a damn about your family.
