In all aspects, this TikTok video breaks my heart. Filipino kids were trying to sell sampaguita garlands to make money, one in school uniform, the other isn't. The guard, who is likely making ends meet from his wage, trying to enforce what he needs to do, to clean up the front premise of the mall, destroyed the garlands from the young girl. Then bystanders who didn't do anything, a typical scene, whatever drama you might see happening at that moment in the Philippines. This is in Manila city, where everyone is mostly living like strangers to each other. This video is all about the fact that the Philippines is so poor. A child needs to help make money to help the family. A security guard who needs to do his job cruelly and bystanders who won't need more trouble for themselves.
