When I interviewed Ron Paul last year, I asked him what it was about his race, when compared to someone like Mitt Romney’s, that created such an enduring movement. Because he's extraordinarily humble, Dr. Paul said it was because of the ideas and that he was standing on the shoulders of giants. But I insisted that it went beyond the ideas— it had something to do with his character. Tucker Carlson’s monologue before his interview with Ron Paul captures it exactly: It can't be reduced to the fact that he was a libertarian—that overstates it and understates it. Ron Paul created a lasting movement because he is an honest man and has been a consistent moral voice. And for that, he was seen as crazy in 2008 and 2012. But now people recognize that Ron Paul was right.
