The original MF DOOM mask: Re-Ignition, an archival library of objects and gear. Re-Ignition will be available exclusively on the Living Proof Patreon, tomorrow. The original MF DOOM mask designed by graffiti writer KEO, was created at the outset of DOOM’s career as a masked figure. This early version of the mask was used in the rapper’s first three music videos, establishing the identity that would come to define MF DOOM’s mythology. Conceived as a literal and symbolic concealment, the mask allowed DOOM to separate the performer from the person, shifting focus entirely onto the music and persona. Though later iterations of the mask became more widely recognized, this original design represents the foundational moment of MF DOOM’s transformation into a faceless antihero and icon in hip-hop history. This early version of the mask was severely damaged during the "?" video shoot with Kurious Jorge. KEO attempted to repair it before finally deciding to shop for an actual metal version, which became known as the iconic "Gladiator" version that most DOOM fans know and love.
