JAY-Z breaks down his songwriting approach and the thought process behind some of his techniques for The New York Times ✍️ "Most times I come up with the flow first. I'm trying to work out the pockets, and then I'll fill it with words."

Jay Z uses ghost writers but “I don’t want to have this convo bc I still want to do business with them”

We can’t forgot what he did on 'GOD DID'

He’s one of the few artists who can break down his process so clearly. The way he explains things, it never sounds forced or overly technical. It’s sharp and direct, which reflects how he actually creates.

My soul hurt a little when Jayz said he lost so much material after he stopped writing his lyrics down.

He in the Epstein files

Hov getting that itch we definitely getting an album tell @sc I should be on it for sure

Jay-Z crafting flow first then filling pockets with words. masterclass in rap architecture. the technique behind the hits.

you can see evil in this eyes

Just goes to show you good minds think the same. The bio for this song says the same thing about writing off of sound. AI songwriters are using some of the same methods that big time writers use when writing lyrics. Pressure Don’t Blink is a cinematic, emo‑rap anthem built on resilience and transformation. It blends West Coast bounce with emotional storytelling, hard 808s, semitone lifts, and choir‑lit tension. It is about people having problems because a lot of us are having problems! It is about not giving up when life looks cloudy. The struggle can be so thick, but we have to understand that all this stuff is character building. We will come out of this stronger because we're not giving up. EVER! Vocals made in AI studio, lyrics and musical arrangement by Shellzonit. While making this video, I had to cut away from my normal arrangements starting around 20 to 40 BPM. I am never 100 percent sure about the sounds until I put the arrangement together and something talks to me. I really wanted to have the piano, but I couldn't find a place for it in the arrangement. So, I ended up going with 90 BPM, 808, slow drums, emo rap, lower 2 semitone, trap, up 1 semitone, 909 Claps, 110 BMP, hard bass, down 2 semitones, 100 BPM, house, male choir. I write off of sound, I always have! I remember the first song I wrote was to a jingle! Anyway, after getting the musical arrangement completed, it was easy to come up with the words. I love creating stories when writing songs and doing videos. I hope you enjoy it.

I don’t rap / record but I freestyle and think of song ideas to my beats or others and I do the same thing almost, kinda like mumble out the flow/ freestyle and find the right flow to fit the pockets then you just fill in the words with what makes most sense

Remember when people reacted to Drake releasing the 100gigs as him trying hard to remind the fans who he was, I wonder what this is compared to that.

That’s why great rap sounds effortless… the flow be built before the words even land.

He needs to release a new album this year.

W Hov

Is that now how they come about lyrics?? Melodies first then lyric comes in second? There is nothing special in that.
