Jealous that virtually all Mexican cities have plazas and squares that enable mass gatherings like this. I’ve been to the one in Guadalajara and it’s immense. US cities have nothing like this. Times Square but a dim shadow compared to this. LA once had its plaza before yanks came

That's not a plaza or square, it's a six lane roundabout that connects two major "stroads" in the city. Vehicle access was limited for the celebrations

Yes you’re right. Is Minerva right? I’ve been there. Guadalajara does have Revolution plaza. I was thinking of that when I wrote the post

I’m aware this isn’t a square or plaza. I think it’s the roundabout around a statue of Minerva. Near Zapopan. I’ve been there I guess I was thinking somehow of Revolution Plaza also in GJ which to my Yankee eyes was grande! In any case well down Mexico I ❤️ you & your futbol

They are cooking you, but its because you put the wrong video

En Guadalajara tenemos la plaza de Liberación en forma de cruz

That's not a plaza, is literally the street

The "Ordenanzas" of Felipe II of Spain were the manual for planning cities back in the XVI and XVII Century Cities built in those times all over the Spanish Empire follow the same urban grid. And the most important part of those cities are the central square (and smaller plazas)

LA still has its very same original plaza, right across the street from Union Station. The problem is that they cut a freeway trench through the neighborhood, right between the plaza and the rest of Downtown.

Never seen anyone glaze Mexico like this. It’s a regular street they closed for the event. Yes, the US can do this too but Mexicans actually show up

Australia has no squares at all (fed square doesn’t count) because they were worried if they had an open space that would give an area for the convicts to revolt. Still convicts 250 years later

"Law of the Indies" city planning manual still paying dividends centuries later. And it would still work today for modern city planning.

Holy cope. Your people literally when they have to live in that shit hole. Now it’s, “yeah but we have parks and sheeeit” lmfao plebs

And most important: whith no active shooters

I believe the impact comes from the passion, support, the vibe by Mexico and that nobody can match it.

What a beautiful and grand scene of human celebration. Giving echoes of Plaza de Cibeles in Madrid, Ethiopian Orthodox Christmas celebrations, Arc de Triomphe & Champs-Elysees in Paris. As a Nairobian, I'm really jealous.

200,000 there and one million gathered in mexico city yesterday

Porque las ciudades virreinales estaban hechas al estilo español en plan mediterráneo y las yankys en plan hereje del norte.

@sofii_alv no lo había pensado pero es muy cierto

We have destroyed most of our downtown spaces in most of our major cities when America decided to rip them apart with massive freeways running through them.

The US doesnt promote community it promotes competition even amongst its citizens.

lmao because here someone would shoot

THATS not a plaza. Its a street and a massive roundabout. It is epic though

That’s not a square, It’s a rotonda

San Diego kind of has one in Balboa Park

The music 😍😍😍🤩

This is very huge

we do not need it. we have so many parks and open fields for viewing parties

Awesome view

Taos Plaza exists. Santa Fe plaza exists.

Chicago has Buckingham Fountain/Grant Park and Michigan at the Chicago River

There's nothing to envy, this looks beautiful, but from ground level the story is different: 5 dead people and counting after last night's celebrations. We do NOT have the infrastructure, capacity, or civil / road safety education you imagine to that enable that mass gatherings

3 people died
