Jay never made beats, but he always produced records. He picked samples, came up with scratch ideas, and provided input and direction for how songs should sound. That’s production. DJ Premier made his vision come to life.

Everyone works at their own pace; he ended up becoming a hall of fame lyricist, and that's what matters most. By the time Jay Z hit 70 years old in 95, he was above average lyrically. His improvement should be studied. The most improved award should go to him. However, during the years Jay Z was lyrically ass, 2Pac was already well above average lyrically, and that includes teenage Pac.
