Jensen Huang: AI is a five-layer cake: energy, chips, infrastructure, models and applications. “China has twice as much energy as we have as a nation, and our economy is larger than theirs. Makes no sense to me.” “On chips, we’re several generations ahead. But don’t be complacent.” “Anybody who...

It's crazy how large their resume is They boast of ownership to more than 20 models Both open and closed source Open wieight - Qwen (Alibaba) - DeepSeek - Kimi (Moonshot AI) - GLM (Zhipu / - MiniMax - Hunyuan (Tencent) - Ernie, smaller versions (Baidu) Closed - Doubao (ByteDance) - Ernie flagship (Baidu) - Qwen Max, the top tier (Alibaba) Media models - Kling (Kuaishou), video - Hailuo (MiniMax), video and voice - Seedream / Seedance (ByteDance), image and video - Wan (Alibaba), video

and uk what the scary part is how many of these models are actually competing now lmao 😭

Winning one layer probably isn't enough. The US can have the best chips and frontier models, but if energy or infrastructure becomes the bottleneck, the advantage at the other layers matters a lot less

I have never seen it this way, it's an interesting perspective tbh

I guess Jensen feels Usa should light years ahead of China in all infrastructure and sectors But reality shows that's a different case

“china, oh china” china is a country where technology is there whole life. it’s like iron man having his whole life and home running on jarvis. or a homeowner having their entire house running on ai. the same china experimenting with robots that let disabled people work remotely, like operating restaurant robots from home. color me mad. their belief in technology feels like the belief satoshi has in bitcoin, vitalik has in ethereum, keone had in monad, or the united states has in its military. and for them, it’s an technology is a all hands on deck, prolly hence why their ahead in open source models. - like a this is where we good at, if we must keep our reputation we do it as a nation. the perspective of the five layer cake is something i just didn’t see before. particularly interesting if i must confess. just my thoughts tho

the Jarvis part is what really got me. I’d never thought about it like that before, but yeah… over there it’s not even something you go out and buy. it’s just part of how everything works. and the open sourced thing makes way more sense now too. it’s not really generosity, it’s pride. like “we’re good at this and we want everyone to know it.” the chips are still the part I’m stuck on though. you can put an entire country behind solving something, but if you still depend on someone else to actually make the chips, that’s a pretty big problem.

Five-layer cake and China is already winning two of them: energy and open source. The rest is a six-month lead that doesn’t feel like a lead.

Manufacturing runs on electricity. Services do not. That is the gap. Data centers are industrial load coming back to a grid built for flat demand.

Chinese economy measured in dollars is not as large because financial systems are lagging indicators of actual agency - they are a combination of socially perceived agency and real agency. Like with any valuations. I'm sure Jensen knows this yet is trying to take people from their own self-appraised delusion of competence(money) and not physics. Next - it seems our human economy will decouple from the AI economy because economy is a way of co-ordination/trust/accounting and agentic systems are vastly different qualitatively and quantitatively. Our economy would be chump change pocket money w.r.t physics universe. 'Industries' are a relatively mild example of this aren't they.

Our "economy" is as large as the amount of wealth that doesn't exist but we still owe it to the megacorporation anyway.

The Chinese chracters store more information than the English alphabet. I'm not sure how that works with their input UI though?
