A young man has shared how he narrowly avoided being scammed by a Nigerian young lady. According to him, the young lady claimed she needed money for transportation to Tarkwa. Out of goodwill, he sent her to the station to personally pay for her fare. However, upon arrival, she suddenly said she could not travel as she was waiting for her sister. Realizing she was lying and attempting to scam him, the young man left her. He added that he has encountered similar attempts to scam him on three previous occasions.

A while back, I spoke with a kid who had just received an acceptance letter to Stanford. He was raised by a single mom who worked multiple jobs to make ends meet, doing everything she could to give him the best shot at success. She sacrificed a lot to help him get into a great college. He said he was proud of his mom and happy with where his life had led him. But after reading my book, he realized something—given the choice, he would have traded his Stanford acceptance letter just to have known who his father was. Education is important. Social mobility is important. These are things we should absolutely focus on. But we could also focus on repairing the family. Because while it’s great that a young guy can get into Stanford, it would be even better if he could do it with his dad in his life too.
