I don't consider this fumbling. He's being responsible here because she doesn't know much about the world or universe for that matter. He's only thinking about her best interest, he doesn't see himself as that guy. Pretty sure this season he'll realize he IS good enough

While I get the feelings here, I also think that people aren’t seeing that Jimmy, while insecure, is being very mature about things; Kara has pretty much just been freed from a secluded and solitary existence, so she may be rushing into things and has little social experience

This is very clearly supposed to be a rejection of the "bro sexy yesterday" trope. He's being an actual emotionally intelligent and caring person who isn't taking advantage of an inexperienced woman who fell for the first guy she saw. That's not fumbling, that's not being a POS.
