6’11 Andrew Holifield has been one of the most intriguing players in CBB so far this season. Through his first three games he’s averaging 17/5/2 and 3 blocks a game while shooting 55% from the field and 44% from three on 5 attempts a game. Holifield is extremely versatile and can multiple positions on the court due to his shooting ability and fluidity, he’s been one of the best big shooters in CBB this season shooting 44% from three on high usage and he has the ability to shoot off the dribble at a high level or off the catch. He’s also a skilled mid range scorer and passer for his height. On the defensive end he’s extremely switchable and uses his size and athleticism to be a rim protector and read passing lanes for steals.

Syracuse’s William Kyle III is one of the best Big Man Prospects in this year’s NBA Draft. For the season Kyle averaged 8/7/1 along with 2.5 BPG and 1 SPG, while also shooting 66% from the field. Standing at 6’9 with a 7’3 wingspan and a 44 inch vertical Kyle has the tools and frame you want from an elite defensive big in the NBA. Kyle’s mix of elite athleticism, rim protection, defensive versatility, offensive rebounding, finishing, and motor is all of the traits teams are looking for in their rim running bigs in Kyle is one of the best in the class in all of those areas. On the defensive end Kyle uses his length and athleticism to be a highly impactful rim protector who also doesn’t foul which is extremely rare. He’s also versatile enough to play in a lot of different defensive systems and he's also versatile enough to switch onto smaller players. I wanna expand on Donnie Freeman, and my opinion of his game, and fit with Kentucky at PF. Undeniably versatile, now 6’10, 220lb, he’s got really tight handles for a big, he’s got a quick first step with either hand, good passer, capable shooter, Donnie is everything Coach Pope could seemingly want in the main guy who will be at the point, of getting back to the zoom offense. THAT would be my pitch to Donnie. Show him the Amari Williams Film, tell him you’ll be in these kinds of positions where the ball is in your hands most in the halfcourt, making high level reads/passes, etc. what makes him even more advanced is his ability to take guys off the dribble, his shooting ability mid range/3P, that’s exactly what Kentucky needs next to Malachi Moreno. Alabama is said to be involved, and met with him yesterday. I think the BG signing (which wasn’t cheap) MAY be a little bit of a “pivot” from Donnie’ they certainly can’t offer as much as Kentucky. UConn is interesting, they’re awaiting NBA/Return decisions from 3 Guards, they need a starting wing, they need a PF, and they need 2 C’s (in a market where they’re very expensive) UConn has the lowest offer of the 3. His camp apparently likes Hurley/Uconn. Kentucky is hosting Donnie on a visit today, reportedly through Thursday. I don’t think it’s a coincidence Jeff Goodman dropped the “potential” ‘UConn visit on Friday’, just one day before he gets on Kentucky’s campus. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was agent tactics, to publicly tell UK Staff, “let’s get this done while he’s on campus” Kentucky has the highest offer to Donnie by far. 🚨Rio Ferdinand on Liverpool signing Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona. 🗣️“ I know a lot of Liverpool fans are sat there right now going ‘Araujo? Really? The one who’s been struggling at Barcelona?’ And I’m sitting here thinking, you lot never learn. This is a proper defender. Not a progressive passer who looks nice on a possession graphic. A proper, physical, aggressive, dominant centre-half. Exactly the type of player the Premier League still rewards when the games get messy. At Barcelona under Flick they want their centre-backs playing like midfielders, high line, constant pressure on the ball, line-breaking passes, perfect positioning every single second. Araujo isn’t that. He never was. He’s a warrior. He’s the one who wins the first duel, the second ball, the aerial battle, and then recovers with that ridiculous athleticism when the space opens up. That’s not a weakness in the Premier League. That’s currency. In La Liga, especially at Barça, those little concentration lapses and the occasional overcommitment get punished because the spaces are bigger and the system demands perfection. In the Premier League? Those same traits become strengths. Teams play more direct, the midfield is more chaotic, the strikers are more physical, and the game lives in the transitions. That’s where Araujo lives. He’ll eat those battles up. Would I have loved him at United? Of course I would. I’ve said it before, he’s got every attribute that translates to this league. Physicality, aggression, leadership, recovery pace, presence. He’s the type of centre-half that makes a back line feel solid when the pressure’s on. United could’ve used that. But Liverpool getting him on loan right now? It’s a smart bit of business. They’re light in there, Van Dijk can’t do everything forever, and this is a player who’ll give them that nasty edge they’ve been missing at times. I know some of you don’t want him. You want the polished, modern, progressive centre-back who never makes a mistake on the ball. Fair enough. You've got to have a good wedge game, good putting, good iron play. So there is a balance. “But I'm never not pursuing how to swing it faster or have it come off the face faster and then learn how to control it. That's kind of my goal. I always go to how hard can I swing it, and then how do a back off of that. It's just my mentality. So I'll forever be pursuing a little bit of speed as time goes on. “This golf course, you can't swing it hard out here. You can hit it far, but you have to control your ball more than you can kind of just bomb it and let it go wherever. Fairways are tight. “I'll forever be chasing speed. Hopefully the technology can catch up with where our swing speeds are going because right now, any minor mis-hit can make the ball go quite a bit off line. That's why I've got what I'm using now, then working on some stuff, as well, to see if there's any improvements to be made from what I have now, and we'll see where the future takes us. “I'm excited to unveil some special stuff here soon. One of the challenges that makes mapping from Second World War unit war diaries particularly difficult is the mapping system itself, specifically the coordinate grids and map projections used at the time. The British relied on several different map projection systems, each built on geodetic datums that were, by modern standards, imprecise. For northwest Europe, the two most relevant are Lambert Zone I, based on the Nouvelle Triangulation Française (NTF) datum and the Clarke 1880 ellipsoid, and Nord de Guerre, an older WWI-era grid based on the Ancienne Triangulation Française (ATF) datum and the Plessis 1817 ellipsoid. By 1944, Nord de Guerre was technically obsolete, but it still appeared as marginal reference ticks on many British-issued map sheets. These datums were derived from earlier triangulation surveys and predated the computational methods that would later allow for globally consistent, satellite-verified reference systems. Geodesy as a discipline was still maturing, and without computers, producing and correcting large-scale surveys was slow, laborious work, made harder by the fact that a war was actively being fought. The practical consequence for a theatre like Normandy was that available map coverage relied on conical projections, specifically Lambert Conformal Conic, rather than the narrower strip-by-strip Transverse Mercator projection that underpins the modern Military Grid Reference System (MGRS). Transverse Mercator projections perform well over narrow north-south bands but distort rapidly as you move east or west. Lambert Conic projections handle wider east-west extents better, which is why they were preferred for covering broad operational theatres. The tradeoff is that both introduce distortion of different kinds depending on where you are on the sheet, and that distortion was baked into every map issued to every unit. Layer on top of that the generalisation inherent in the most commonly available wartime maps, the GSGS 1:100,000 series. At that scale, features must be simplified: roads straightened, villages approximated, contours smoothed and errors compounded. In practice, positional inaccuracy across these sheets typically falls in the range of 100 to 200 metres, with worse outliers possible depending on the area and the source survey data. By modern standards that is significant. GPS-guided munitions rely on sub-metre accuracy, and calling close artillery fire with that margin of error would be genuinely hazardous to friendly troops. In the Second World War, those errors were real and unavoidable, and commanders and surveyors simply had to account for them operationally. When we mapped Project '44, we manually georeferenced each GSGS map sheet and stitched them together, tying the sheets to known, identifiable features on the ground. Done carefully, this process keeps positional accuracy near the lower end of that 100 to 200 metre range, but it cannot push below it. The original datum and projection errors, the generalisation of the source maps, and the inevitable human error in the georeferencing process all combine in ways that cannot be fully eliminated. There is a floor, and that floor is set by the accuracy of the original surveys. Over the last several days I have been working on a new approach to reduce that residual uncertainty and speed up the mapping workflow. It is a system of systems that brings together three reference layers in one interface. The first is the wartime grid systems, specifically the coordinate grids actually used in the war diaries, enabling direct input and plotting of grid references as they appear in the source documents. The second is the georeferenced GSGS basemaps, the original wartime maps georeferenced to a modern coordinate system, so a plotted grid reference can be visually cross-checked against the map the unit itself would have been reading. The third is a modern accurate basemap, a contemporary mapping layer using current satellite-derived data, for ground truth comparison. The idea is convergence across three independent references. Where all three agree, you have high confidence. Where they diverge, a human mapper can apply contextual judgment, drawing on terrain, road networks, and the unit narrative, to make the call on where the position actually was. The goal is faster, more efficient mapping without sacrificing interpretive rigour. Rather than automating the decision, the tool gives the mapper the best possible information to make an informed judgment about where a unit was and what they were doing.

The second is the georeferenced GSGS basemaps, the original wartime maps georeferenced to a modern coordinate system, so a plotted grid reference can be visually cross-checked against the map the unit itself would have been reading. The third is a modern accurate basemap, a contemporary mapping layer using current satellite-derived data, for ground truth comparison. The idea is convergence across three independent references. Where all three agree, you have high confidence. Where they diverge, a human mapper can apply contextual judgment, drawing on terrain, road networks, and the unit narrative, to make the call on where the position actually was. The goal is faster, more efficient mapping without sacrificing interpretive rigour. Rather than automating the decision, the tool gives the mapper the best possible information to make an informed judgment about where a unit was and what they were doing.
