Joe Budden tells DJ Akademiks that he sees what he’s been trying to do, putting his name in the middle of the Jay-Z and Drake situation. Budden says he’s been saying Drake should leave Jay-Z alone, and Drake’s fans were saying no, he shouldn’t. Now Joe Budden has switched up, and Akademiks is asking him why he suddenly wants Drake to battle Jay-Z. He also says a Jay-Z vs. Drake battle isn’t the same as Kendrick vs. Game, because Game is from the West Coast. That battle could turn dangerous given West Coast gang dynamics and the history between those two, while a Jay-Z vs. Drake battle would just be a battle, with no real-world stakes attached.

🚨 The Joe Budden Podcast compares Drake’s ICEMAN era to Jay-Z after the Nas battle the pod says Drake is basically on the same type of timing Hov was on during Blueprint 2 where the biggest artist in the game loses a battle, feels the world turned on him, then comes back rapping with something to prove Joe says Kendrick “killed” the old version of Drake that fans had been begging him to evolve from before praising ICEMAN as the beginning of a “new Drake” that sounds more focused, hungry and locked in

🚨 Joe Budden CHALLENGES Drake to stop subliminally circling Jay-Z and finally make the battle DIRECT Joe says if Drake really means “the pen isn’t dry,” then he should “take the bait,” get on the hardest beat possible and throw the first real punch at Hov. “Swing. A real swing. Throw a punch.” The room then debates whether Drake could actually beat Jay-Z, with Joe saying if he somehow did: “The other rappers’ll salute it.” Via The Joe Budden Podcast

🚨 JBP debates whether Drake could actually BEAT Jay-Z in a rap battle and says the Kendrick loss may have made Drake more prepared this time They say Drake is “not a walk in the park for nobody” and one person argues he may even be the one more capable of landing the decisive record: “I don’t see Drake getting smoked no more.” They also speculate Drake could attack the idea that Jay “ain’t really down for y’all” and lean into the criticism people have been making about Hov being more business-minded than for the people though the room debates whether Drake could credibly take that angle They still say Jay would be much harder to turn the public against than Drake was during the Kendrick battle Via The Joe Budden Podcast

DJ Akademiks explains why he thinks Jay-Z would be an easier rap battle opponent for Drake than Kendrick Lamar was, saying Drake would have more material to work with due to Jay-Z's highly public life 👀 "I do actually think that Jay-Z is an easier matchup for Drake than Kendrick was. I think Kendrick has lived a private personal life... He's not Jay-Z, who, yes, Jay-Z is kind of like, 'For the culture.' But I could list off 30 things now where he's a hypocrite."

🚨 Akademiks Calls Out Joe Budden for saying The Game vs. Kendrick has “far deeper implications” and questions why that same concern wasn’t there when Drake battled Kendrick Ak points to the fallout from Drake/Kendrick, including relationships being divided and ScHoolboy Q’s Toronto show getting cancelled, asking why that battle was treated like “just rap,” while Game/Kendrick is viewed as something that could get too serious to encourage. “Y’all want Drake to battle everybody… but y’all don’t want to encourage the fight with these two because it will get too serious?” Ak says that logic basically tells him people see Drake as someone where nothing real is expected to come from a battle beyond rap, ending with: “So you’re basically just telling me you just think Drake’s a pussy ass soft ass nigga.”
