I’ve heard Lennon in more than one interview refer to his (and the other Beatles’) “primitive” musical ability, by which I think he mainly meant “untrained.” Their imaginative naïveté combined with Martin’s technical expertise & refinement produced an amazing musical alchemy.

George Martin IS the fifth Beatle. I will hear no argument to the contrary.

Martin was the dose a maturity that blended oh so well with the creative flourishes of Lennon and McCarthey.

Good to hear Mr. Martin getting some credit, which he richly deserved. @SIRJOHNREITH The band pushed George Martin, and Martin pushed the band into some revolutionary mixage. It was a partnership that expanded the borders of rock n roll and pop music in general.
