During the U.S. Senate's confirmation of John Ratcliffe CIA Director John Ratcliffe for CIA Director on January 22nd, 2025, GOP Senate Majority Leader John Thune Leader John Thune remarked on the Senate floor, "Do we want to vote on these nominees Tuesday, or wait until Friday, Saturday, or Sunday?" Thune seems to be done pretending like he’s Mr. Tough Guy Majority leader with his bloviation on the Senate floor. Remember when he said he won’t let any Senators take the weekends off until all of President Trump’s nominees were confirmed? The Senate has now adjourned for two weeks, with 221 Trump nominees still awaiting consideration by the Senate. Only 53 of President Trump’s nominees have been confirmed since inauguration. John Thune has been a massive let down. Just more lies from the Republican Party. We will lose the midterms in 2026 if the GOP continues to be this lazy.

If Democrats continue to drag out the confirmation of every single one of the nominations of a duly elected president, then we are going to have to take steps to get this process back on a reasonable footing.
