An interesting fact about Johnny Cash is that he was one of the first artists to perform live concerts inside a prison. On January 1, 1958, he played at San Quentin State Prison in California, beginning a tradition of prison performances that would become a significant part of his legacy. His most famous prison concert, recorded at Folsom Prison in 1968, resulted in the iconic live album At Folsom Prison, which revitalized his career and cemented his image as an advocate for the downtrodden. Cash’s connection to prisoners stemmed from his own experiences with rebellion and redemption, resonating deeply with the inmates.
