If you don't have a forward assist, you can push your BCG forward by putting your thumb in the cutout where the dust cover latch goes.

As a fellow dinosaur I also like having it on mine. 👍👍

No. If a round won't go in on its own there has to be a reason. As long as I have been running an AR, if a round stalls I just cycle the bolt and load a new one. Works every time.

Wut. I thought that was the sniper button that made the AR-47 shoot fully semiauto?

I thought this button made my gun full overlapping auto. I've been so afraid of it that I never tested it out...

the AR platform was originally designed without a forward assist. The weapons designer, Eugene stoner only added it after the US army insisted it when they were going to adopt the rifle. Just a random fun fact. It does have its uses and has potential to cause problems as well.

Sully at "The Defensive Edge" used to make a gas deflector for suppressed rifles that replaced the forward assist. Stopped making them but they were actually super helpful with non flow through suppressors.

You absolutely DO NOT need a forward assist on an AR-15/M-16/M-4. Until you do.
