We urge the governments of the countries whose nationals are involved as mercenaries to uphold their moral and legal responsibilities by engaging immediately with Sudanese authorities to halt this grave situation —one that risks implicating them in war crimes and crimes against humanity committed against unarmed Sudanese civilians. To the proud people of Sudan: It has become clear that a conspiracy is being plotted against our homeland, one led by forces seeking to seize our resources, displace our people, and replace them with armies of outsiders. This is a defining moment in our nation’s history, one that calls on all of us to rise above our differences, unite behind our armed forces and national leadership, and reject all forms of hatred, racism, and tribalism. These weapons were intended to be transported from a European country through Chad to Darfur, specifically to the city of El Fasher, with the goal of seizing the city using devastating arms. To the proud masses of our people, Thanks to precise intelligence monitoring from both across borders and within the country, the Special Operations Forces of the Joint Forces, in coordination with the Sudanese Army, succeeded in thwarting the delivery of these dangerous weapons. A meticulously planned military operation was carried out in the X area near Nyala at 3:00 AM on Sunday, December 1, 2024. Outcomes of the operation: •Seizure of 3 large drones capable of carrying four air-to-surface missiles each. •Seizure of 6 smaller drones capable of carrying two air-to-surface missiles each. •Elimination of over 30 mercenaries from the Rapid Support Forces militia. •Destruction of 8 military vehicles. On January 13, Valerii "Yarylo" Horishnii, senior sergeant of the 12th Special Forces Brigade Azov, defender of Mariupol, and former prisoner of war, delivered a speech at an Arria-formula meeting of the UN Security Council titled "Violations of International Humanitarian Law Against Ukrainian Prisoners of War and Civilian Detainees." In his address, he spoke about the torture and abuse that Ukrainian POWs endure in Russian prisons, shared his own experience of being held in Russian captivity, and highlighted the systematic violations of the Geneva Convention Relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War by the Russians. He also reminded the international community of the terrorist attack in Olenivka orchestrated by the Russians in July 2022, which resulted in the deaths of over 50 Azov POWs and left more than 130 wounded. At the end of his speech, Valerii urged the attendees to facilitate the exchange of Ukrainian POWs, keep the issue of Russia's grave violations of humanitarian law on the agenda, apply pressure on Russia to grant the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross access to Ukrainian POWs, and demand to end the criminal prosecution of POWs.
