.@NathanDahm asks John “does the Constitution say voting rights ‘shall not be infringed’?” It doesn’t use that exact word, but YES. The text of the 15th, 19th, 24th & 26th amendments, which expand and protect voting rights, say that this right “Shall not be denied or abridged.”

15th Amendment (right to vote cannot be denied on the basis of race): ‘The right of citizens of the United States to vote SHALL NOT BE DENIED OR ABRIDGED by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.’

19th Amendment (right to vote cannot be denied on the basis of sex): ‘The right of citizens of the United States to vote SHALL NOT BE DENIED OR ABRIDGED by the United States or by any State on account of sex.’

24th Amendment (right to vote cannot be denied by poll taxes): ‘The right of citizens of the United States to vote SHALL NOT BE DENIED OR ABRIDGED by the United States or any State by reason of people paying poll taxes or other taxes.’

26th Amendment (right to vote cannot be denied to those 18 years of age or older): ‘The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote SHALL NOT BE DENIED OR ABRIDGED by the United States or by any State on account of age.’

These Amendments, passed in 1870, 1920, 1964, and 1971, respectively, use even clearer language in their protection of voting rights than the 2nd Amendment does for guns, yet Republicans have done EVERYTHING possible to eviscerate the protections of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Yet Republicans are not only in favor of requiring registration to exercise this right, they have purged voter rolls of existing registrations; added photo-ID requirements that are known to target voters of color; ended early voting, drop boxes, and restricted voting in 49 states

Republicans have been waging war on voting rights for nearly a century. And their new illegitimate supermajority on SCOTUS puts them on the precipice of gutting the only remaining protections of the VRA (the seminal legislation that protected our right to vote):

@jonstewart I’ll admit I wasn’t a Jon Stewart fan 20 years ago but he can really call these hypocrites out using their own arguments. He never fails. So I have to say, I’m a fan.
