It’s been a rough season. He was likely rushed to the big leagues last year while they dragged their feet on McLean and Linley cost them a playoff spot as a result. I think this was Tong’s growing pain of a season. He will sort himself out next year repeating Triple A.

He was great in AA then was brought to Triple A for very short then rushed up to MLB to try to help Mets make playoffs Needs some time to develop in minors once he gets called up should just keep him up

Move him to the pen and make him the closer of the future.

Goodness. I know the Mets will spend eternity trying to develop him as a starter but I always wonder why they’re not proactive enough to move try of these guys as relievers earlier. Stearns did that a lot in Milwaukee. Tong seems like the ideal reliever candidate.

Because he still cannot command his pitches. Until he has fastball command, he will never be a good starter. He gets behind and has to throw his fastball. And as much as his FB has great metrics, when they know it’s coming and that he can’t hit a corner, he will give up bombs.

I think last season having been brought up to the Mets might have set him back significantly. Hopefully, though, it’s not permanent.
