I’ve not seen this before. The pan from Mekas to the Twin Towers is so eerie and shocking.

Unbelievable, ive never seen this before. Reading his autobiography right now

I know where I was when the tower fell. I had been mesmerized, watching the towers burn from Fort Greene Park. At some point, I snapped out of that trance and ran to my house, just two blocks away, to grab my camera. But by the time I got back, the tower had already collapsed.

I met Mekas a few years after he was setting up the wine table for his own show at the Museum of the Moving Image. I had arrived early and approached him, asking what the show was about. We chatted for a bit, and it wasn’t until later that night that realized who he was.
