I always see Jonathan's passing in any version of Superman's story as a reminder if not shorthand for "Superman can't save everybody." And that sort of thing is one of the more humbling realizations for someone as powerful as Superman.

Fuck this part gets me every time

Okay, massive spoilers, but the way this mirrors the later funeral shows Clark's massive heart in the series, whether it's his father or the man that killed his father, he will always give respect.

The song choice kills me every time

Personally, I hate that Clark was responsible for his fathers death in this show & his jerky self pitiful attitude in the next episode. I far prefer Jonthan's death in Superman 78 as something that was out of Clark's control and he had to adapt to & grow form
