Because of the Lu Dort three-team trade, the Hawks have no appetite for the Jarred Vanderbilt contract anymore. This essentially means the Lakers have unofficially entered the LeBron James carousel. How? Well, now that the Lakers can't do a direct swap with the Hawks, a 3rd team will need to be involved. Looking at the rotation this team is a fantastic transition from the athletically challenged team the Lakers had last season. Also last seasons team had only two defensive specialists in Marcus Smart and Jarred Vanderbilt but the latters offense makes him unlikely to get a chance with JJ Redick. This team has rangy defenders in line with the direction the league is headed. Ziaire Williams being top 20 in the NBA in some advanced defensive stats. Grimes is the archetypical 3 and D wing with emphasis on poa duties. Cameron Carr and Adou Thiero are prospects showing tremendous promise on the defensive end. All these defenders are young and athletic. Zeroing in on Ziaire, he's a 6-foot-8 wing with a 6-foot-10 wingspan. Ideally, he fits into our power forward spot with his length and ability to deter shots at the rim as a forward. His 3-point shooting stats look bad in a vacuum but he's shown better efficiency shooting the three over the past 3 seasons. Looking at his shot mechanics below, you can see his shit release point is good, his follow-through is good as well. He can become an elite shooter especially with two of the league's best playmakers in his backcourt. Also, he can catch lobs too. Nice. Hats off to the tremendous work Rob Pelinka has done this summer rebuilding this team. Having this flexibility of wing defenders alongside an elite rim protector in Kessler honestly makes me very bullish on the Lakers. This is a 57 win team barring any major injuries. There is top 5 offense and top 10 defensive potential. Rob Pelinka has done an excellent job dealing and wheeling like a GM. I have been hard on him in the past for being too passive and not making moves on the margin. The last 14 months have been so much better from him.

If the Wolves were able to have a cap space team (maybe Brooklyn or Chicago) absorb Julius Randle's contract next season ($33M), that would open up three interesting roster building tools I want to highlight. I think this is relevant because the Wolves front office has a history of kind of stringing together transactions -- even over the course of multiple transaction windows (offseason and trade deadline). The Randle trade would be Randle + draft compensation for say Brooklyn to absorb the contract - maybe: Randle + No. 28 for a future 2nd (Adjust compensation as you see fit. Not the point of this exercise. Obviously if this would cost a bunch, they wouldn't do it. Or maybe they'd have to move to using Gobert's salary as the salary moved into another team's cap space.) Shedding Randle's salary would drop the Wolves well below the *1st* apron (about $52M). And while beneath the 1st apron, the Wolves would open up the ability to three additional roster building tools for spending that $52M... (If Ayo Dosunmu were to sign for $17M, that would be $35M in room below the 1st apron. And need to make sure to get the roster to 14 players.) 1. The non-taxpayer midlevel exception ($15M) - The "big MLE" is a $15M gift card for teams to spend above the salary cap but below the 1st apron. So if the Wolves were to use this, they would be hard-capped at the 1st apron ($13M below 2nd apron). If a team is over the 1st apron, they only have access to the taxpayer or "mini MLE", which is $6M next season - Could go out and sign a free agent for up to $15M in starting salary - Could also use this $15M as a trade exception and trade for a player who makes up to $15M 2. The trade exception generated in the Mike Conley salary dump trade to Chicago ($10.77M) - A trade exception allows a team to trade for a player without sending back matching salary for up to the amount of the trade exception - So with access to this trade exception, the Wolves could trade for a player making up to $10.77M - Using a trade exception also hard caps a team at the 1st apron ($13M below 2nd apron) 3. Making a Randle trade to a team who absorbs his contract into cap space would also create another trade exception (up to $33M) - The size of that trade exception would be Randle's $33M, minus whatever the Wolves took back in the trade - Might not need that for spending this summer. But doesn't expire for 365 days. The downside of working below the 1st apron as opposed to the 2nd apron is it restricts overall spending power by $13M -- because that's the gap between the two aprons.

If I have a plug or a hack to get a better deal or more food, would I share it online? Probably not, the chances that it would ruin it me or the company is pretty high. Especially if other locations catch on. I feel that if I shared this, what would happen is more and more people would try to take advantage of it and the store would issue a policy to stop it. What I’m conflicted about is, by ordering a taco in a bowl, I would be getting a $15 bowl for $4. Is it my fault the company has a loophole like that, or should I even feel guilty about exploiting it if it’s only for my benefit? Or is it a scenario where everything is fair game because the restaurant allows us to do that. Whose fault is it that we figured out how to get their pricier item for less? Someone else called it theft, but is this really theft if it’s allowed? They allow us to put our taco shell in a bowl. They allow us to ask for as many extras that we want. So would I really be the bad guy for taking advantage of this? I figured if this was a real issue the store would have stopped it, and to this day as far as I know, anyone can still do this. When I get a chance this week I’ll go and try to do this again to see if it still works, I’ll keep you posted.

This scene always makes me think about what markets do once a simple asset story is no longer enough. At first people buy the thing itself. Then, at some point, that stops being exciting enough. So the market starts building layers around it. A structure. A wrapper. A more financial version of the same idea. That is why MSTR comes to mind for me here. Not because it is the same as a synthetic CDO. It obviously is not. But because the instinct feels familiar. If you believe in Bitcoin, the clean path is simple. You buy Bitcoin. If you want a more traditional route, you buy the ETF. That should be enough. But MSTR is something else entirely. It is Bitcoin, turned into a corporate vehicle, then turned into a capital markets machine, then turned into a narrative people are willing to value differently from the asset underneath it. And that is where it starts feeling less like pure exposure and more like financial engineering built around exposure. We have seen this movie before in different forms. Markets love taking a real asset, wrapping it in a new story, and then assigning the wrapper a value that starts drifting away from the thing it actually holds. As long as that premium stays alive, the machine keeps working. More demand for the structure. More capital raised. More accumulation. Bigger story. More believers. On the way up, it all looks brilliant. That is always the seductive part. In strong markets, even very simple reflexive loops can look like genius. The real question only shows up later, when the mood changes and people start asking whether the value was in the underlying asset all along, or in the extra meaning the market temporarily assigned to the structure built around it. That is why I find this clip so relevant. It is not just a reminder of 2008. It is a reminder of a deeper market habit. People rarely stop at owning the thing. They almost always find a way to build another layer on top of it. And to me, that is the more interesting question around MSTR. Not how much more Bitcoin it can buy. But how long the market will keep rewarding the wrapper more than the thing inside it.

Final Thoughts on Attack Trigger. It’s slightly underwhelming. Maybe it’s because it’s still early and I haven’t given it enough time but we’ll soon see anyways since it can get buffed as the days go by. Attack Trigger is noticeable when you are counter attacking and are in transition since all of your attacking options makes more aggressive runs into the box even if they are Creative Playermakers which is a more passive playstyle. Through Balls on the ground is definitely the superior option to go for too. There were many times when I was sitting in the midfield with De Jong waiting for runs and I am just watching my team do nothing so that’s a bit frustrating. Another positive about the Attack Trigger pack is that Reece James is a beast. Definitely top 3 Attacking RBs in the game by far. His crossing is up there with Lahm, Jordi Alba, and surprisingly Beckham. Also it would really help if there was a clip showing the differences of AI movement when a ball carrier has Attack Trigger and when a ball carrier doesn’t have Attack Trigger. It would really help clear things up instead of making the descriptions more easier to understand. Having that visual comparison example would be extremely helpful. 🤷‍♂️

Vinod Khosla on the two most important things to get right when building a company The first thing for a startup to get right is make sure they’re inventing something radically different: “If you’re extrapolating the past to predict the future, the big companies do that very well. Intel knows how to go from a 15nm process to 10 to 7 to 5… Entrepreneurs fundamentally have to invent the future they want in a very different way, and you have to have conviction.” For this reason, Khosla Ventures tends not to invest in startups that are trying to do something “slightly better” (e.g. slightly lower cost, slightly more efficient, etc.) because the risk is too high. As Vinod explains: “If you’re fundamentally reinventing something and changing the assumptions, then you have a lot more time to get it right so there’s a lot more iterations you can do.” Which brings Vinod back to the second thing every founder has to get right: build the right team. “If you get the right team — it doesn’t even matter if you get the spec right — it will iterate to the right answer, and almost all good startups do that. This is why the team is more important than the market you pick.” However, you must make sure to foster a culture of debate and disagreeing: “If there’s a single founder and you’re dictating terms, you’re not going to evolve… You have to set up a culture so that it doesn’t matter if you’re senior or junior — you speak up if you have a concern or an idea. FSD Beta 12: The One Where It Parks Itself After consistently having the car either park itself into a stall (if my destination was a parking lot) or pull to the curb out of the roadway (if the destination was on a street), I experienced this… Set the destination to a random alley in Downtown Sacramento. The car pulls into the alley, driving slow. Based on my previous experiences earlier in the drive it appears to be looking for a spot. Seems like it couldn’t find one it could fit into. Instead of stopping in the middle of the roadway (how v11 would have performed) the car rerouted itself around the block and back into the alley. When it gets back into the alley, it immediately parks into a parking stall instead of proceeding all the way to the destination. This is EXACTLY what I would have done if I was driving. After seeing there was no parking spots the first time, I would have driven around the block and parked in the first available spot I could find. Whether or not this is what actually happened is up for debate. But based on the previous 5 or so tests I performed before this, it really does seem like it was looking for a spot to park. I’ll post the video of the entire drive with the other parking examples later on today. Maybe Elon Musk can chime in as to what happened here?

The multiple will evolve to reflect the oncoming reality, and at this point they've given us enough to believe. The ingredients are there, the foundation is there, the path is there, the compute is there, the team is cracked, and the potential to apply this technology across the company's billions of daily users and more than 250 million businesses is extraordinary. The upside from re-rating alone is substantial. 22.5x to 25x gets you to $830 to $925, or a 35% to 50% return. That's close to a home run in mega-cap land. And that's before accounting for any upside to numbers from this technology, which seems likely, and the fact that long-run earnings power is still so much higher. I expect this will be a very good stock from here, and I'm excited to see everything MSL has cooking for this year and beyond.

Essentially the trade deadline is February 11th and the new talking point is 'Hey, we got expiring contracts, $100 million.' Those are only valuable up until February 11th, so you got 6 months. It's 6 months and really less when the season starts on October 21st, so you're really looking at 4 months to prove this team is worth keeping together. If not, you cash in them chips. It's probably 6 months left for the Draymond Green era. He's on a 1 year deal, $27.8 million, and doesn't have a no-trade clause, so that's a very tradable contract. It felt like this has been coming for a while, but this, the way Dunleavy was talking, and the way they positioned it, this feels like 'Alright, let's see where we are in February because if we're not where we need to be, then we're just going to start selling pieces off and starting over.' That's what it felt like to me. I don't know how you felt about it, but the talk about $100 million, the talk about still waiting to make a move, these are chips that have to be used by February 11th. There's no more Kuminga chip. There's no more young talent to trade. The last chips are these expiring contracts. That is Jimmy Butler. That is Draymond Green. That is Kristaps Porzingis. Anyone that owns or runs a business knows that uncertainty is never a good thing for your business, the fact we sit here 21 days till Opening Night & Connor McDavid isn’t signed to a contract extension is not good for your business & it’s bad management that it’s gotten to this point. The uncertainty of Connor McDavid signing or not signing isn’t good. Ken Holland created a great culture & since he’s left that culture isn’t the same anymore. Connor McDavid knows it. Holland wasn’t treated right in his last year in Edmonton. When in the history of game has a GM taken his team to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, lost but then wasn’t brought back? Holland would have stayed on to see this through but someone in Edmonton didn’t respect Holland enough to keep him around. It’s pretty clear though that Connor McDavid is leaving after this interview & that’s a great thing for the NHL even better for the NHLPA because Connor McDavid should be & will be the first player in the history of the game to make $20M on an AAV & that’s not going to happen in Edmonton but it will happen on another team that’s setup better to win as soon as he joins that new team. There’s a good chance the new team McDavid signs with won’t have multiple players making $10M or more. He might be the only one. That will set him & that team up to win many The Stanley Cup No one knows more about the game than Connor McDavid & he knows you can’t win a Cup with 3 to 4 players making $10M or more. It’s never going to happen. Play this year out & move on. Even if the Oilers do win the Cup this year moving on is the best thing for his career & even growing the game. There will be better options come July 1st 2026. Being around Team Canada players & Coaches will/should play a factor in his decision to find a better home once he’s a UFA.
