Josh Giddey on what’s left him feeling like a more complete player, and specifically as an off-ball guy. “Confidence. Being in a place where I’m wanted. I love being here. … that’s what you need as a player. “I love when we’ve got other handlers. …Obviously the situation was... show more

Kawhi Leonard on Spurs fans booing him: “It’s just because the player I am. And what I’ve done here. So it’s a little pain in the heart still. It’s still love in the city wherever I go. But obviously when I put on that different jersey, they have a great fanbase, so they’re gonna stick to the Spurs and I’m okay with that.” Is it added motivation? “Nah… Every game I’m looking for the ball and trying to be aggressive. That’s how you have explosive games… If you come in the game with an inconsistent mindset, you’re gonna play inconsistent.”

Lebron on Josh Giddey: "His knock was when he left OKC was his ability to shoot the ball. Now he's shooting the ball. You can't just sag off of him, you can't just lay off of him and dare him to shoot. He's actually shooting the ball at a high clip. Chicago has a really good player in him"

Stephen Jackson says LeBron had one move left to pass Jordan, and he picked the one that ends the argument “I thought everywhere in the world, but Philly... I did not think Philly.” “You the best player in the league, as you say. So going to a team that’s already championship ready, that’s not what I would look at as the best player in the league challenging himself.” “He’s done it before, and he has the right to make his own decision, just like I have the right to my opinion. I don’t think that was a best-player-in-the-league move of what a guy that I respect as being the best player in the league would do.” (via ALL THE SMOKE, ft. Stephen Jackson (Stak5))

Cam Thomas on his decision to accept his qualifying offer: “I’d rather control my situation. As a player, that’s what you want… I’m just here to play my game and keep doing what I was doing. Really just enjoying my 5th year with the team that drafted me… We’ll see what happens, but I’m happy to be here. Happy to play in front of the fans again. I love playing here, so I can’t wait to get started.”

Dwyane Wade on love from Miami Heat fans: Here it's different. I was born in Chicago but Miami is where I grew up. A lot of the fan base grew up with me. A lot of the kids were young and their parents forced them to watch me and make me their favorite player. I'm not the greatest player to play basketball but you can't tell me that or anyone in Miami that when I come here. I feel like the greatest player when I step in this arena, city and state. #HEATCulture

Antonio Brown says he gave up $30,000,000 with the Raiders to go play with Tom Brady “I go to Oakland. I get a big deal. I love Mark Davis. I love Jon Gruden. But in my mind, as a player, you're thinking like, Yo, I want to be a champion. I done everything from making the money. I done really have like $80 million in contracts just with the Steelers. So to me, it's like it's time to be a winner. I already got $40 million in the tuck. I just want to do something legendary, like just be a champion” “So I called Mark Davis, as smart a man as I am, because I'm a good guy. I could've just said, Yo, my back hurt, and got the $30 million. We played Denver on Monday night. The contract guaranteed once you play the first game as a vet. I could have gotten the $30 million. I said, No, I'mma do what's right” “Mark Davis went out on a limb, stood out on a limb for me when I was walking off from the Steelers. And I told him I need $30 million guaranteed right here in my living room, and he did it. So as an honorable man, I told him, like, Yo, I don't want to be a Raider. Save him his money. And I got a chance to play with Tom Brady at the Patriots”

Minkah Fitzpatrick on his biggest regret in Pittsburgh: "In Pittsburgh I definitely regret the way I handled the situation. When I first got there they just plugged me in at post safety half safety. And I played well there. After awhile quarterbacks aren't going to be throwing you the ball a whole lot And I kind of got pushed into that role. People forgot that what I was known for was my versatility and doing different things. I'm a good football player so no matter where you put me on the field I'm going to be a good football player. But I think where my capabilities are maximized is when I could do different things." #steelers 🎥 Pivot Podcast

Max Strus says making the NBA required him to accept he doesn’t have a bag anymore and that shooting got him on the floor but defense would keep him out there “I don’t have a bag. I used to have a bag back in college, but I don’t anymore because you find what your niche is and you just go at it.” “I knew shooting the basketball was going to get me on the floor, and then I knew playing defense was going to keep me on the floor. I’ll guard the best player. I don’t care. They’re going to score on me because everybody’s that good. You can’t really stop anybody anyway.” “So it’s like, how can I make it as tough as possible on them? I don’t need to shoot the ball. I’m all right. I can do other things that I know are helping the team win. How can I make Donovan Mitchell better? How can I make James Harden better? How can I make Jarrett Allen better?” “If I feel like I haven’t gotten a shot, it’s like, all right, go crash the offensive rebound and get it. I’m not going to sit here and cry to myself about not shooting the ball or not being involved. Make yourself useful.” “My first couple years [in Miami], I don’t think I dribbled the ball once. Come off a handoff and shoot, come off a screen and shoot, and then defend and rebound. That’s all I did.” “As you continue to build more confidence within the team, within the coach, they put you in positions where, all right, now I can do a little bit more.” “You’ve got to have the humbleness to humble yourself to, ‘I’m not that guy anymore. I can’t be that guy anymore.’ But then be ready for the opportunity when it does come, ‘No, I could still be that guy. That’s just not what we need right now. But when we do, I got you.’”

Brock Purdy on Ricky Pearsall’s 0 catches in the last 3 games: “Obviously I’d love to get Ricky the ball as many times as I can. He’s explosive, and does a good job of creating separation in man coverage. So, as a quarterback for sure I want to get him the ball and I love the kid he’s awesome, but for some reason just with how the game has gone. I haven’t been able to connect to him.”

Did #Jets HC Aaron Glenn give a coded message about who his team LOVES in the #NFLDraft? 🧐 "I have learned this really with Sean Payton, you've got to shut out the outside noise, and who do you LOVE? If you LOVE the player, go get the player. I truly believe in that. If you LOVE the player regardless of what everyone thinks, regardless of positional value, if you LOVE the player, go and get him." "Obviously, me and Dan [Campbell] were together in New Orleans all those years, and that never left us. I'm not changing from that either, and that's something that me and Moug [Darren Mougey] talk about a lot, and we utilize that. If we LOVE the player, man, we are going to get him." AG was asked about how the #Lions operated in the 2023 #NFLDraft when they took Jahmyr Gibbs & Jack Campbell & they didn't care what anyone else said outside the building. 🎥 New York Jets #JetUp LINK:

Vince Carter says he had to reinvent himself when he became a bench player “Dunking was the thing and that’s what got me here. Fine. I got in the door. Now let’s fine tune these skills to stay here. When I became a bench player… I got to Dallas, I told them, ‘I’m comfortable with my game, bro. It’s just, can I still be a dominant player in my new role?’” “So I started watching Vinnie Johnson tapes. Then I started watching Ginóbili and Jason Terry. Guys like that who are great sixth men and how do they prepare, but still be me.” “Now this is my moment. My game starts now. When I check in the game, that’s my time now. So I just was able to adjust. That’s what I tell young kids. It’s like, okay, if you don’t start, so what?” “There’s a lot of players in this league who start that don’t finish games. Would you rather be in the game in the last two, three minutes? Closers get paid. Finishers get paid.”
