Such a beautiful yet deeply melancholic song, one of my favorites.😊 It was first recorded under the title "Chance" in June 1979 for a Manchester radio session. Then re-recorded as "Atmosphere" in October that year.

In his book Peter Hook said originally the bass was much louder and Hannett mixed it down. I’d have loved to hear that version.

One of my favourites!

Atmosphere is like, totally one of those songs that just gets right into your soul, ya know? Ian Curtis, that dude was something else. His voice, the lyrics, it's all just so raw and intense. The way he could convey such deep emotion, even though he was so young, is pretty remarkable. It's like he had this understanding of the world that went way beyond his years. Totally a unique talent. It's a bummer he's not around anymore, but his music still lives on and inspires so many people. You can hear his influence in tons of bands today, which is a testament to how groundbreaking Joy Division was.
