BMA Reports Smooth Christmas Operations at Lebombo Border Amid High Volume The Border Management Authority (BMA) has reported a successful and busy Christmas period at the Lebombo Port of Entry, a key border post between South Africa and Mozambique. Commissioner Dr Michael Masiapato stated that on Christmas Day alone, over 18,450 travellers were processed exiting South Africa. The vast majority were cleared through automated systems, with only 450 processed manually. Those manual entries are being reconciled on the Enhanced Movement Control System. While heightened patrols prevented major illegal crossings on December 25th, 88 individuals were declared undesirable for overstaying their visas. In the early hours of Friday, 26 December, enforcement efforts led to the interception of more than 80 Nike sneakers being smuggled into the country and the arrest of one person suspected of facilitating illegal migration. On the cargo front, operations were also efficient. Approximately 805 trucks were cleared, moving towards the Port of Maputo, and the N4 highway is currently clear of congestion leading to the border. “The Border Management Authority remains fully deployed and vigilant, ensuring both the facilitation of legitimate movement and the prevention of illegal activities,” said Dr Masiapato. The authority confirms that Lebombo is now operating normally but that monitoring will continue throughout the festive period.

Lowest number of illegal crossings since 1970! We have come a long way from seeing thousands of illegal crossings a day, but we will not stop until we have full operational control of the border. That means no one crosses undetected. If they do get across, they are processed and returned to their home country or a country that will accept them.

We have a major crisis at the southern border, but Democrats and Republicans alike are ignoring a fast-growing crisis at our *northern border.* Today, I am visiting the vulnerable Swanton Sector of the northern border. The total number of illegal crossings here last January surpassed the preceding January apprehensions for the past 12 years *combined.* Human trafficking, drug smuggling, and illegal border crossings are all up sharply. We are a nation of laws – and when people abuse our laws, they must face penalties for their actions. What’s happening now at both our southern and northern borders is a direct attack on the rule of law in America.
