On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger delivered an order to finally enforce the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing 250,000 enslaved Black Texans. And it was 22 years after Juneteenth, on Aug. 15, 1887, that former slaves founded Eatonville – "the Town the Freedom Built.” Today, I’m excited to join Eatonville Mayor Ruthi Critton to celebrate that freedom and to continue the fight for true justice and equality for all. Happy Juneteenth!

To honor this key marker in US history, we collaborated with artist Gianni Lee and world-renowned photographer and founder of charcoalpitchfc, MelDCole, to develop Juneteenth-inspired jerseys along with a commemorative patch.

While we celebrate freedom on Juneteenth fully and unabashedly, we are also reminded that the powerful will try to rob us of our freedoms if left to their own devices. But the power of the people is absolute— as long as we continue to exercise it, and guard against the forces that seek to divide us.
