Some may call it an upset, but Chadron St simply calls it another day at the office, beating the #9/#11 Western CO Mountaineers on Saturday (11/8/25) in OT by a score of 27-24. Chadron got it done in all three phases of the game. The Eagles’ offense presented a balanced attack, gaining 111 yards and 2 TDs passing to go along with 148 yards and 1 TD rushing. The Eagles’ defense held the Mountaineers to a mere 38 yards rushing, had 7 tackles for loss, including 3 sacks, and came up with a fumble recovery and 2 interceptions. The most impressive part of Chadron’s team on Saturday had to be its special teams. The Eagles’ special teams blocked two field goal attempts and blocked a punt. Punter Brodie Eisenbraun stuck one punt inside the 5, drew a running into the punter penalty for a 1st down, and had an amazing run off of a high snap, which while it was not a 1st down, it shows what a stud he is. Then there is Kicker Wilson Yee. Yee made an impressive 50 yard FG in the 2nd quarter. Then, in OT, with ice in his veins, Yee made the biggest kick of his collegiate career, drilling a 47 yard FG to give the Eagles the win. For those that had the privilege to see the greatness of linebacker Derrick Thomas in person, they will remember the significance of what happened 37 years ago when the Alabama Football legend ensured the Crimson Tide would not lose in an 8-3 victory over Penn State on Oct. 22, 1988, inside Legion Field. Thomas terrorized Penn State’s Tony Sacca all afternoon and finished with three sacks, nine quarterback hurries, eight tackles and almost outscored the Nittany Lions by himself with a fourth-quarter safety. Led by the heroic performance, the Crimson Tide defense allowed just 21 yards in the second half. In the 1988 season, Thomas won the Butkas Award as the nation’s top linebacker and finished with a staggering 27 sacks. To put that in perspective, Alabama as a team had 25 sacks last season with one extra game. “We made some changes at halftime to free Derrick Thomas,” Alabama head coach Bill Curry said. “Once Derrick Thomas is flying around, all kinds of things happen. They start looking for him. It’s a real nightmare when there’s a player like that on the other team.” CBS televised the defensive slugfest and announcer Brent Musburger described Thomas’s afternoon as, “the most dominating performance I’ve ever seen by a college player.” Philip Doyle scored the only offensive points for Alabama with a 39-yard field goal in the second quarter, before giving the Crimson Tide a 6-3 lead with a 35-yard field goal in the third quarter. ⬛ Austin Ekeler: From D2 to the League He ran for 5,857 yards at Western Colorado Football. Signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent. Led the NFL in touchdowns twice. Now with the Washington Commanders and still producing strong. He’s one of the best to ever come out of Division II. ⬇️ Western State, now Western Colorado, was the only program that offered him a shot at running back. He stayed four full years and became one of the most productive players the RMAC has ever seen. He averaged 146 rushing yards and 1.6 touchdowns per game over 40 starts. He put together one of the strongest careers in D2 history...and he didn’t have to leave to do it. At Western, Ekeler dominated. He averaged more than 100 rushing yards per game across four seasons, led the country in all-purpose yards in 2015, and earned academic honors alongside his on-field production. By the time he wrapped up his senior year, he was a Harlon Hill finalist with nearly 6,000 rushing yards to his name. His work was undeniable. But he still didn’t get a Combine invite. The draft came and went. No calls. Then the Los Angeles Chargers brought him into camp on a rookie deal and gave him a shot. He took it from there. He made the roster as a rookie and started producing immediately. First as a change-of-pace option. Then as a third-down threat. Then as the guy. In 2021 and 2022, he led the NFL in total touchdowns. He stacked back-to-back seasons with more than 1,500 scrimmage yards and at least 15 total scores. He caught 107 passes in 2022, the most by any running back in Los Angeles Chargers history. The production hasn’t slowed down. In 2024, he signed with the Washington Commanders. He’s still outworking people. Division II didn’t slow him down. It prepared him. The hours. The discipline. The ability to carry the weight of a program while juggling everything else college throws at you. That’s what this level teaches. That’s why it sticks. There are players right now doing the same thing. Grinding through the spring, stacking film, putting together complete seasons. Some will make it. Not because someone finally believed in them, but because they never stopped believing in themselves. He averaged more than 100 rushing yards per game across four seasons, led the country in all-purpose yards in 2015, and earned academic honors alongside his on-field production. 🚨HERASKEVYCH: “WE TRAINED 12 TIMES A WEEK. I FINISHED QUALIFYING IN FIRST PLACE WITH THE BEST RESULTS — BUT UNFORTUNATELY, THAT’S WHERE MY JOURNEY ENDED. THE CAS DECISION IS SHAMEFUL.” Vladyslav Heraskevych (Vladyslav Heraskevych OLY) was invited to the Munich Security Conference, where he briefly spoke with journalists and commented on the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decision to reject his appeal. HERASKEVYCH: Today we only had a court hearing this morning, and there's already a decision. We're already thinking about our next steps, because I believe the CAS decision is also shameful, but I'll comment in more detail a bit later. I need to familiarize myself with it in more detail. The hearing itself was, in my opinion, rather one-sided. I didn't hear anything we couldn't answer. Yet at the same time, there were no responses to any of our arguments. And it was very strange for me to see such a decision from CAS. The preparation took quite a long time, and for the athlete, for me, I was probably in the best form of my career. You could say I've been working toward this my entire career. If we're talking specifically about results, the training camps were excellent. I finished the qualifying training in first place with the best result. Unfortunately, that’s where my journey ended. Of course, along the way there were many sacrifices and many training sessions. On average we did 12 training sessions a week, and well, that's truly a massive amount, and they were exhausting. And unfortunately, all of this led to us not being able to compete due to the unlawful actions of the NOC. Q: If I may ask a question: how are you feeling right now? HERASKEVYCH: Right now I'm still in a state... I really haven't slept much these last 4 days, and we constantly have so many updates coming in. I honestly can't quite keep up with observing everything that's happening. I knew many athletes personally, and the idea came up a long time ago. We managed to execute it just shortly before the Olympics. It was painted by a wonderful artist from Kyiv, Iryna Prots. She painted all of this just like all Ukrainians are living - under shelling, in the cold, without electricity. But at the same time she did an incredible job to honor the memory of these wonderful athletes. Among them, we can talk about many. I'll probably start with Dmytro Sharpar, who was a member of the Olympic team at the 2016 Youth Olympic Games, that same team that I was on. After the World Cup victory, when this team returned to Bangalore from Kuala Lumpur, BCCI gave a grand welcome to the Under-19 team, and Kumble and Dravid were also present there. Dravid congratulated all the young players and imparted some wisdom. He said, "We are proud of you, but I want you to remember that from the Under-19 team that won the World Cup in 2000, only one member was part of the Indian team that won the CB Series." "What you have achieved is not everything, and your goal should be to win the World Cup one day." The young captain of that Under-19 team was listening carefully , and just three years later, he was part of the ODI World Cup-winning team. But the world had yet to witness the prowess of Kohli - the batter in a World Cup... By the next World Cup, Kohli had established himself among the World's best batsmen, but as in life, achieving everything in cricket is not easy. Kohli and the Indian team ended their 2015 World Cup campaign in disappointment. After becoming a regular part of the Indian team, 2015 was the first year when Kohli scored runs at an average of less than 40! Soon after, Kohli was given the responsibility of captaincy, which brought out a new brilliance in his batting. By the next World Cup, Kohli had scored 18 centuries & more than 4000 runs in ODIs at an average of 85 in just three years... Once again, India entered the 2019 World Cup as favorites and justified this tag, entering the semifinals as table toppers. But like in 2015, both Kohli & the Indian team were left with disappointment once again. Whereas the defeat in 2015 had shown us a new level of Kohli, after the loss in 2019, much had changed. In the meantime, there was COVID, a lack of regular games, a century drought, captaincy controversies, and numerous challenges, and another World Cup had arrived...
