New short course: Serverless Agentic Workflows with Amazon Bedrock. Learn to build and deploy serverless agents in this course created with Amazon Web Services and taught by Mike G Chambers, a Senior Developer Advocate at AWS specializing in GenAI. (Disclosure: I serve on Amazon's board.) Generative AI applications are becoming more complex, sophisticated, and agentic. Agentic applications have workloads that can be hard to predict in advance -- for example, what tools will it decide to call? -- and a serverless architecture helps you efficiently providing on-demand resources. This course teaches you to build and deploy a serverless agentic application. You’ll learn to create agents with tools, code execution, and guardrails, and build responsible agents for business use cases: - Build a customer service bot for a fictional tea mug business that can answering questions, retrieve information, and process orders. - Connect your customer service agent to a CRM to get customer info and log support tickets in real-time. - Explore how you invoke the agent, and see the trace to review the agent’s thought process and observation loop until it reaches its final output. - Attach a code interpreter to your agent, giving it the ability to perform accurate calculations by writing and running its own Python code. - Implement guardrails to prevent your agent from revealing sensitive information or using inappropriate language. By the end, you will have built a sophisticated AI agent capable of handling real-world customer support scenarios. Please sign up here!

Foreign workers replacing American workers are put in the uncomfortable position as the scapegoat for decisions made by tech companies: "The argument you hear from the high tech firms is that they can't find enough qualified American workers. Well, there are a lot of qualified American workers. But the companies will do better financially if they hire the foreign worker rather than the American." "The American workers are just as skilled as you are, perhaps even more skilled. Yes, that's true." Most of these global staffing firms are based in India. They've become multi-billion dollar enterprises, supplying American companies with H-1B workers like Rajesh to replace American workers. Rajesh said he was never told in India he'd be taking Americans jobs. Rajesh: "I have to take all of their knowledge and basically I have to steal it. That's my job description. The American workers lose their job and they also cry while leaving the job. They cry. They've been working there 20 years. And suddenly I've taken their job. If I lose a job, I can go back to India. But where can they go?" "You must know that when most native born Americans see this going on, they blame you." "But I'm not the enemy. The main villains are the Indian companies and their American corporate clients. They are exploiting us." No point in hating the players, hate the game. The tech companies are the 'contemptible' ones for replacing Americans with foreign workers purely for profit.

They called this a “Town Hall”, but it was more of a “Management Hall”. But here’s the reality transit workers deal with every day. In 2018, management gave conductors phones. There’s a bulletin to prove it. But today? If a conductor gets caught with a phone, management treats it like it’s the worst violation imaginable. So which one is it? Because a distraction is a distraction. Whether the alert says “service delay” or “your child is sick at school” the phone still rings the same way. You can’t preach one policy… and enforce another through discipline. And speaking of discipline… When workers ask for real safety solutions, the answers suddenly disappear into bureaucracy. For six months we’ve been waiting for an answer to one simple question: Can off-duty employees or deadheading crews ride in the cab for their own safety? Because the reality is this uniform attracts negative attention. Transit workers get assaulted wearing it. But somehow we can hold endless meetings… and still leave basic safety questions unanswered. At some point we have to stop pretending these meetings are productive. Because workers aren’t interested in ceremonial conversations. We’re interested in results. The people who run this system every single day don’t need more meetings. They need real decisions. So here’s the question again: Can transit workers ride in the cab for their own safety… or not? Because accountability shouldn’t only exist when it’s time to discipline workers. It should exist when workers ask management to do their job too. #ny #mta #nyc #fyp

WATCH | Hi Please Share. These are the conditions that workers endure at Indarama Gold Mine in Kwekwe. We write with heavy hearts as Zimbabwean workers employed at Indarama Ming Chang Mine, Kwekwe. We are not against investment or mining. We want to work, build our country, and provide for our families in dignity and safety. Right now, that dignity is being taken away. These are the conditions we face daily, and we are speaking out because internal reports have led to victimization instead of solutions: 1. Safety Violations - PPE Denied & Sold to Workers Workers are being made to operate underground and in hazardous areas without proper Personal Protective Equipment. When PPE is available, it is sold to employees instead of being issued freely as required by the Mines and Minerals Act and Factories & Works Regulations. We are expected to buy our own helmets, boots, gloves, and dust masks from the wages we barely survive on. 2. No Clean Drinking Water or Sanitation The entire mine has no clean, potable water for workers to drink. Many of us are forced to drink shaft water. There are no functional toilets on site. This is a serious health and dignity risk. 3. Poor Wages, No Grading Structure Employees are underpaid with no clear grading or salary structure. There is no transparency on how wages are calculated, no promotions, and no career path for most general hands. 4. Inhumane Accommodation Workers are housed in small rooms built from sacks, tents, and plastics, directly on bare ground. There is no proper housing that meets basic health and safety standards. We sleep in overcrowded, unsafe structures exposed to weather and illness. 5. Victimization & Unlawful Dismissals As workers, we elected representatives to formally write to mine administration to raise these issues for resolution. Instead of dialogue, anyone who raises a concern is dismissed with immediate effect. Employees are being fired without due process, without hearings, and without reason. Fear has replaced safety. Our Plea: We are Zimbabweans. We want to work. But we cannot work safely, legally, or humanely under these conditions. We therefore humbly plead for urgent assistance and investigation from: 1. Ministry of Mines & Mining Development- For safety and compliance inspections 2. Ministry of Labour & Social Services- For labour law, wages, grading, and unfair dismissals 3. Ministry of Health & Child Care- For water, sanitation, and occupational health risks 4. His Excellency, the President- For intervention to protect Zimbabwean workers We are not trying to damage the mine. We are asking for the law to be upheld: safe PPE, clean water, decent toilets, fair pay, proper housing, and the right to speak without fear of being fired. Sincerely, The Workers of Indarama Ming Chang, Kwekwe
