clearly the shift here is the public they are targeting, the movie are made for kids, to make them feel in that they are part of that fantasy world, the tv show trailer is made for adults, you can see there’s no light, the theme song choice...

Night and day difference! I get the feeling with the first movie they wanted to appeal more to children. Now that the films were a success, the HBO producers can focus more on the source material rather than relying on getting viewers

Fantastic. Not even a minute in and I know what this movie is about. Clear. Concise. To the point. The entire show teaser never says anything about what is actually happening in the show or why anyone should watch it outside of nostalgia.

Exactly! This series trailer is generic, typical music, and the trope of "You're not special, but actually you are!" The original has the music, the wonder, the instant pull into what this magical world has in store for both Harry and the audience.

I never felt movies succeeded in portraying the darkness that Rowling describes, even the later ones. Voldemort was never very scary in the films. While this is much more whimsical, perhaps the show will give more of the feeling of a world-ending danger

The original trailer is so much better. It's whimsical, mysterious, adventurous and quite dark. Like a scary story for kids. The new trailer is trying to be epic, and carry weight. It has no confidence in itself. It depends entirely the viewers to know what Harry Potter is.

An interesting unintended side effect of Hollywood remaking everything is that it provides a controlled experiment to compare how the arts and society at large are doing in the modern day compared to previous decades. There's kind of no hiding the societal decline when everyone can clearly see that the versions of movies and other forms of media from decades ago were objectively much better.

That's what I've been saying, the series trailer lacked a memorable soundtrack to convey the feeling of discovering magic, and it also lacked brighter... After all, we're talking about a child who just discovered a magical world. They failed to capture the magic in the trailer.

Butter really enhances good toast and that’s exactly what John William’s score did for this series.
