Just found out about disc rot

Time to back up my entire physical collection

I might be overreacting but I was hoping discs could be passed down generations like books (I know books will also deteriorate, just much later). Seems like they will last a lifetime at the very most.

What the fuck does that mean??? Do these not last forever???

Most of your lifetime at best, 10-20 years at worst. I think it depends on the humidity and how you store them.

Basically, keep your discs in their cases/boxes. Mitigate harsh elements/extreme temperatures, and your discs generally will be fine close to forever.

Knew yall were overrating tf outta discs and how much better they are then digital😭😭

They still are? Quality is way better but most of all I just think collecting is satisfying and fun.

I have audio CDs from the 80s that still work just fine. same for DVDs from the 90s and bluray is still too recent to know, but it should be fine too. As long as you store them properly.
