Sad to say, but this was the case before the pandemic. My mom is a teacher and my dad has a masters in education and I’ll say this, so many people are walking around with hs diplomas they should’ve never received

We can see this with adults on Twitter every day. They cannot read, spell, or comprehend. They have been failed by parents and the system.

According to national data 9/10 parents think their child is at or above grade level in reading and math (regardless of race, income, education level, geographic location etc) when in reality only 1/3 of students are actually on grade level.

Maybe he's being reductive for emphasis, but there's a lot missing from this argument. Like the fact that parents don't pass/promote their kids to the next grade. Schools haven't figured out how to deal with retention effectively. That's an obvious system flaw. One of many.
