He has another identity as well: he is the father of Krishnakanta Saha, the BJP MLA from the Sainthia constituency in West Bengal. Although his son has become an MLA, he could have easily given up the shop to spend the rest of his life in comfort; however, he maintains that upon becoming an MLA, his son now belongs to the local people just as much as he belongs to him, Before looking after his father, his son must now serve the public. This is the BJP—a party that fielded a grassroots worker—an ordinary man deeply connected to the people—as an MLA candidate, and today, that man has become an MLA with the blessings of the public.

Swan River MLA Rick Wowchuk was scheduled to speak at the grand opening of Swan Valley Regional Secondary School’s new cultural arts centre on Saturday. But the night before, Kinew's office called the school division board chair—Wowchuk’s brother—to insist that the MLA not be allowed to speak. In 2023, the previous PC government invested $15 million towards the construction of the centre, funding that was advocated for by Wowchuk and secured by then-Minister Wayne Ewasko. The event held special significance as Rick Wowchuk was part of the school’s first graduating class and went on to teach there for 25 years.
