When I was a kid, we used to run trap lines when fur was worth something. Got my thumb caught in one of those. There was a solid lesson learned that day... 😄

From what I’ve learned, the most important thing is keeping human scent off. Rust & oil are just fine. The reason it was a little difficult to open was trying to keep clear of the camera & the jaws have rubber grips. By being jammed onto the stick, it added tension when I went to open it. The same is true if there was a leg in it.

That thing is like my brain…. Rusty. And illegal in 37 states.

If you’re serious about catching fur you need to boil your traps with logwood or other dye and then dip it in melted trap wax. Check the internet for how to.

Double spring. I gave them all away but I have three or four #4 jumpers I keep for vermin. We had (No fibs here) An albino rabid coyote come right up to the front door few years back and wouldn't leave just poking it's head up to the screen door as to say Hi.

It’s easy on a concrete floor. Try doing it on a snow covered side hill when it’s 10 degrees out and getting dark.

Works only on hard surfaces, no way to set trap with this method in bogus conditions.

I’ve done so on muddy ground. The point of this post was to familiarize people with how they function.
