Crypto's First Quantum Hack May Leave No Clues Behind Christopher Smith, CEO of Quantus Network, says the first quantum computing attack on crypto could look like an unexplained wallet breach. Smith said a powerful enough quantum computer could derive private keys from public data without touching a wallet or device directly. He said a quantum attacker targeting crypto would likely go after Tether's minting key rather than Satoshi Nakamoto's dormant Bitcoin. An attacker could mint tokens from an administrative wallet and dump them before Tether could respond. Sean Cheetham of Blockchain Capital said attackers would more likely target exchange hot wallets quietly rather than steal Satoshi's coins. Google accelerated its post quantum migration timeline to 2029 in March.
