If you have never been to Big Bend, then you have no idea what the likelihood of successfully getting from the Border ( the Rio Grande River) through the Park to any sort of road out. Most of the Border from Mexico side is not accessible and sits at the bottom of giant mountain cliffs. On the Park side it's miles and miles of remote desert, a literal blanket of all kinds of cacti, mountains, zero shelter or shade, no water, over 100 degrees all day, freezing at night, rattlesnakes, mountain lions, bears. It's truly dangerous. There's a couple of small areas that are physically passable from Mexico that are heavily guarded by armed Border patrol and drones 24/7. I am 💯 for a wall, but in Big Bend it's pointless and just doesn't make sense.

This move is 100% self serving. This wasn't some sudden change of heart about Big Bend. Texans from both parties pushed back hard, lawmakers demanded that Abbott intervene, and the destruction had already started. Now suddenly the project is being stopped and Abbott is taking credit for it. With November approaching, I'm sure the political consequences weren't lost on him. Texans spoke up, and he listened when it became politically dangerous not to.
