Just literally finding out about this today, #Ceasefiregaza supporters here in unheard of numbers to urge Oakland City Council to pass a resolution supporting a ceasefire in Israel's attack on Palestinians

This will be the thread for reporting on this council meeting. There's also a much smaller assembly of A's fans here to support a symbolic resolution on keeping the A's in Oakland. Kind of ironic, really

Nothing on a Gaza Ceasefire is on the agenda, to be clear. This is an autonomous action, & its not even clear which org network is behind it, although APTP sent out an organizing call for it this afternoon, but not as primary org. Humbled to say I was not in this loop

I am not actually sure what the action here is today.

Told by several ask is to get a CM or 2 to schedule a resolution on ceasefire...I'd heard vaguely something like this was in the works, but no idea it was coming today. Activists will ask during open forum for a resolution supporting a #CeasefireInGaza be scheduled to rules.

Caveats. Open Forum is at end of the meeting, after all deliberations are over. I think the likelihood of anything legislative coming out of this meeting, just because of the structure, is not optimal. They'll also have to sit thru the whole mtg, unless OF rescheduled to earlier

One of the Native American honorees finished his address saying "Free Palestine"

Here's the callout, looks like the call is to pass a similar resolution as the ACDCC passed last week.

Several Native American honorees have mentioned parallel to indigenous struggles. Jose “Peps” Garcia said that Native Americans would also be struggling and urged community "don't be that person who stood for South Africa...stand for Palestine"

Clerk is reading in the consent calendar. There's 45 speakers on this after the reading in. Not sure the #ceasefire speakers are aware they could have signed up to speak on items here, as others have in the past and probably will tonight. This could be over another hour.

It's going to be really annoying listening to A's fans talk about how urgent this resolution is for the next hour.

Speaker drew connection to homelessness while US spends billions to Israel to kill Palestinians
