🔴 Finally! NVIDIA has finally made the code for Neuralangelo public! It has the ability to transform any video into a highly detailed 3D environment, and it's a technology related to but DIFFERENT from NeRF. 💡 Here's how it works: It takes a 2D video as input, showing an object, monument, building, landscape, etc., from various perspectives and analyzes details such as depth, size, and the shapes of objects. From this, the AI sketches an initial 3D model, similar to how an artist molds a figure. This representation is then refined to highlight more details, just as an artist would make the final touches when sculpting. The result is a 3D environment/model, perfect for use in any environment. Imagine the applications it will have for video games, cinema, virtual environments, VR, and more! 📽️🎮 💡 More details: A year ago, an article was presented on a groundbreaking technique called NVIDIA's Instant NeRF. This technique turns images into stunning 3D scenes in a short time, ideal for creating realistic models for video games and other applications. Although Instant NeRF had a lot of potential, the generated models were not perfect and often lacked detailed structures, appearing somewhat cartoonish. A year on, NVIDIA releases a new technique based on Instant NeRF, named Neuralangelo. This enhances the fidelity of surface structures. While NeRF reconstructs real objects in virtual environments from images or videos, Instant NeRF speeds up this process, and Neuralangelo further improves the quality, making the generated objects appear even more realistic when examined up close. Neuralangelo improves Instant NeRF's approach in two key ways related to the hash grid encoding technique: 1⃣ Numerical gradients have been used to compute higher-order derivatives as a smoothing operation. This optimizes the "hash grid" encoding using numerical rather than analytical gradients, providing a smoother input to the network that produces the 3D model. 2⃣ A "coarse-to-fine" optimization has been implemented in the hash grids to control different levels of detail. That is, they first focus on a smoothed version of the scene, and then refine it with more detailed updates. Well, as Arthur C. Clarke said, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

Want to create an avatar from a single image? FlexAvatar is a transformer model that creates full 360°, high-quality, and expressive 3D head avatar from just a single portrait image in minutes. Real-time Demo: FlexAvatar's lightweight architecture allows both animation and rendering in real-time, enabling interactive user experiences. To create a new 3D head avatar, only one image is required, e.g., from a webcam. The final avatar is ready after 2 minutes. Architecture: Under the hood, FlexAvatar adopts a transformer-based encoder-decoder design. The encoder maps the input image onto a latent avatar space, while the decoder produces 3D Gaussian attribute maps by incorporating the animation signal via cross-attention. The model learns all facial animations directly from the data without relying on pre-built 3D face models. This equips the avatars with realistic facial expressions. The internal avatar latent space can be conveniently used to integrate additional observations of a person via fitting. This enables use-cases where more than one image of a person is available, e.g., from a phone scan of the person. We train jointly on 2D monocular videos and multi-view data. However, in monocular videos, the animation signal leaks the target viewpoint, causing the model to produce incomplete 3D heads. We call this phenomenon entanglement of driving signal and target viewpoint. To prevent entanglement, we introduce bias sinks. These are learnable tokens that indicate whether a training sample stems from a monocular or a multi-view dataset. During training, the model learns to produce incomplete 3D heads only when the monocular token is present. During inference, FlexAvatar then always uses the multi-view token for which the model has learned to produce complete 3D heads. This simple design allows to combine the generalizability from monocular data with the quality of multi-view data. FlexAvatar summary: - Input: Single-image, phone scan, or monocular video - Output: Full 360° head avatar - Expressive animations - Real-time rendering and animation - Generalization to any portrait - Create a new avatar in 2 minutes - Use bias sinks to combine 2D and 3D data 🏠 🌍 🎥 Great work by Tobias Kirschstein and Simon Giebenhain!

📢 Our lab has been exploring 3D world models for years — and we’re thrilled to share **PhysTwin**: a milestone that reconstructs object appearance, geometry, and dynamics from just a few seconds of interaction! Led by the amazing Hanxiao Jiang 👉 PhysTwin combines **Gaussian splatting** with **inverse dynamics optimization** based on simple **spring-mass** systems. ⚙️ The result? Real-time, action-conditioned 3D video prediction under novel interactions (i.e., 3D world models). 🔑 A few key takeaways: 1. Having the right structure (e.g., particles/masses) helps navigate the trade-off between sample efficiency, generalization, and broad applicability. 2. Visual foundation models (VFMs) have matured to the point where they can provide rich supervision for world modeling (e.g., tracking, shape completion). 3. Beyond VFMs, many crucial components have come together in recent years: Gaussian splats for rendering, NVIDIA Warp for high-performance simulation, and scene/asset generation from a wide range of labs and companies. The future of 3D world models is looking bright! ✨ 4. The resulting digital twin supports a wide range of downstream applications—especially in data generation and policy evaluation, thanks to its realistic rendering and simulation capabilities. 🎥 All code and data to reproduce the results, along with interactive demos, are available on the website. Check the following visualizations of: (1) observations, (2) reconstructed state/actions, (3) interactive digital twins, and (4) the overlays between real-world robot teleoperation and our model’s open-loop predictions.

DIGITAL TWIN UPDATE: The Unreal Engine digital twin project is CANCELLED! WE ARE OPEN SOURCING THE WORK!!!!!!! Instead, I'm building an end-to-end land management platform I'm calling Mazzap because it's an app and it's a map and also I'm Mr. Mazza. I'm also not calling a digital twin anymore; I'm calling it a V.E.I.L. which stands for Virtually Embodied Intelligent Land which serves the dual purpose of sounding way cooler and also conveys the long-term aims of the prject way better. With Mazzap anyone can easily generate a veil with nothing but publicly available data (and some photogrammetry objects if you so choose). Everything is perfectly georefrenced and you can right-click anywhere on your veil to get coordinates you can plug into google maps yourself. The next step for this is going to be building a survey companion mobile app so you can get field data yourself complete with attribute tables to drop in to get even HIGHER fidelity data than USGS. My stretch goal is using something like SAM 3D (but better) to generate georefrenced 3d tree assets based on the real trees on your land (which will eventually lead to growth and fruiting simulators based on your soil and hydrology data). Then again maybe that's not the next step; maybe the next step is plumbing in IoT devices so you can view assets in real time on your land. GPS trackers on the sheep, or maybe data from your solar controller. Or maybe it's up to you, because it's completely open source and it has an agents markdown file ready for your own coding agent to read and adapt for your purposes (did I mention this is vibecloded slop? sowwyyyy) Watch demo below and see how you can go from zero to beautifully rendered 3d map of your property in less than 15 minutes! If you're coming in cold to all this, below in the QT is a nested thread of reverse chronological tweets of my work on this (in unreal) so far.

Cross-Chain Arbitrage on Uniswap V4 (opportunities available) I’ve always been curious: how much do prices actually differ between the “same” Uniswap V4 pool deployed across different chains? Think ETH/USDC on Ethereum vs on Unichain, Arbitrum, or Base . They’re technically the same trading pair, but entirely separate pools, with different liquidity, fees, and most importantly, prices. So I built a dashboard to monitor exactly that. It tracks real-time price discrepancies across Uniswap V4 pools on different chains. Why? I was curious. I wanted to understand: - How often do mispricings occur? - How big are those discrepancies? - And perhaps most interestingly: how fast are they arbitraged away? On the same chain, arbitrage between DEXs is well understood. You can create a smart contract that executes a set of swaps atomically, either guaranteeing profit or reverting the transaction. But cross-chain? That’s a different game. Different chains mean different execution environments, timing issues, and gas fee structures. It’s harder to coordinate. It’s also harder to monitor... What I’ve Built (So Far) Right now, the dashboard monitors the ETH/USDC pair across four chains in real time. You can visually see: - Realtime ETH price on each chain - Size of most recent trades indicated by bubble size - Max current spread available. I've only finished it this afternoon and after watching it for 15min I've already spotted a few times where the mispricings are significant. I want to add more pairs and chains soon (super easy actually) - just don't want to clutter it before getting more feedback and ideas. I’ve dropped the link to the dashboard in the comments below. If you’ve built a cross-chain arb bot, I’d love to hear how you approached it!

Who Is Robert Mallary? Robert Mallary was one of the most successful American artists of the 1950's, known at the time mostly for his trash and assemblage and resin-based works. When the industrial resins he worked with severely poisoned him he was forced to abandon the practices that had made him famous and focus instead on digital art, possibly the first professional American artist to do so. Working at first with punch cards, he began a decades-long affair with what he called cybernetic art, the fusion of man and machine as a single creative entity. When he passed away in 1997 the work in his studio was cherry-picked by dealers and gallerists and much of the trash and assemblage work was hauled away. Surprisingly to modern sensibilities, almost all of the digital work was left untouched. This included thousands of plotters, reams of code, and even one of the first 3D prints in history, Quad II. It simply wasn't viewed as art yet. In 2019 the studio was finally sold and the remaining work was placed in a shipping container in New England, which is where we found it in 2021! Since then my life has been consumed by exploring Bob's complicated and expansive legacy through the archive and interviews with his family and friends. We've produced film and written works, reproductions of his sculptural work, a live exhibition at Pioneer Works, as well as minting progressively more of his work on ETH, both as 1/1s and editions. I'm looking forward to sharing more of Bob's work in the coming years, and I greatly appreciate everyone who has supported the project so far! (Below is EverFresh's tribute to Robert Mallary, featuring Bob on the piano! Likes and retweets are greatly appreciated!)

We are excited to share our work “Event-Aided Sharp Radiance Field Reconstruction for Fast-Flying Drones” published in IEEE Transactions on Robotics IEEE Transactions on Robotics (T-RO), which tackles sharp radiance field reconstruction under agile drone motion, where RGB frames are heavily motion-blurred and pose priors become unreliable! 4 years in the making! Code & dataset released! PDF: Code & Dataset: Full Narrated Video: High-speed flight is essential for time- and battery-constrained missions (e.g., inspection, exploration, search & rescue). However, fast motion corrupts visual data with severe motion blur and introduces drift/noise in visual-inertial odometry, making NeRF-based 3D reconstruction particularly brittle. We propose a unified framework that leverages asynchronous #EventCamera streams together with motion-blurred frames to reconstruct high-fidelity radiance fields from agile drone flights. Our key idea is to embed event-image fusion directly into radiance field optimization while jointly refining a shared, continuous-time camera trajectory initialized from event-based VIO. This enables us to recover sharp radiance fields and accurate trajectories without ground-truth supervision during training. We validate our method on synthetic data and on real sequences captured by a drone flying up to 2 m/s. Despite severe blur and noisy pose priors, our method preserves fine scene details and achieves a performance gain of over 50% on real-world data compared to state-of-the-art methods. Kudos to Rong Zou and Marco Cannici!
