Local MP Mark Pritchard has raised concerns in Parliament about Home Office plans to house asylum seekers in Stoke Heath, near Market Drayton. Stoke Heath has around 60 homes, with plans being pushed to place up to 121 asylum seekers in the village. Shropshire Council says it does not know exactly who will be moved in and insists the decision is being made by the Home Office, not the council itself. Local residents are demanding answers about the impact on housing, services and the safety of their community. We must offer our support whenever it’s needed, as with Crowborough. This is unacceptable.

Three years. No National Insurance. For Indian nationals working in the UK. Yes — you heard that right. The government’s latest initiative gives foreign workers a three-year free ride while British workers are taxed to the max. Please… make it make sense to me. Does this mean they won’t be using the NHS? Won’t need our infrastructure? Won’t access the very services National Insurance is supposed to fund? Because I think we all know the answer to that — of course they will. So while YOU pay in, they get a tax break. How is that fair to the millions of British workers who are struggling every single day? This isn’t fairness. This isn’t putting our country first. Last night, Council approved our property tax bylaw, complying with the UCP government's order to issue their largest property tax hike in our city's history. Despite our Council team approving only a 1.2% tax increase for city services like police and fire, Calgarians will see an increase nearly ten times that. **You need to know that nearly half of your property tax bill goes to the province, in an equalization formula described here by the Premier.** The UCP has hiked property taxes by 57% in four years. Their latest 21% increase represents about $339 more per household. Chestermere and Airdrie will pay even more than that. By contrast, Edmonton homeowners will only pay $154 more. Our Council team cares about affordability. We will continue to push for responsible spending while investing in core services like safety and infrastructure. Let's work together for a fair deal for municipalities and deliver transparency for where property tax dollars actually go.

Last night I spoke on GB News about how net zero is accelerating the decline of British industry and hurting communities like ours in Greater Lincolnshire. Strategic industries like British Steel and Lindsey Oil Refinery are being pushed aside while production is outsourced abroad, especially to China, and taxpayers face yet more levies. These industries were built on generations of skilled workers, and I’m committed to backing British Steel in future projects as we build our new town and skills college.

The threat to the United States from a broken border is large, prominent, and dominant in my mind. I’m confident that we will eventually help our allies. But, I’m not confident that we will help ourselves. I chose to visit our border last week with Tim Scott over traveling to Munich because it’s important for lawmakers to understand what it is like to live in these border communities. It’s time we get the situation at our border under control once and for all.

Coalfield Communities. Today in the Chamber Labour MPs spoke at length about the destruction of our coal mining industry. The MP for Whitehaven spoke about his desire for jobs in his area. I reminded him that there is a coal mine in his area that is ready to open and provide 600 jobs for local people. Have a listen to his response - he called me a populist. Last year Lucy put a motion to full council calling for people with a terminal diagnosis and in the final 12 months of their life to be exempt from paying council tax. We are pleased to share that Liverpool City Council has now agreed to roll this out across the city.
