I can’t ice skate at all.

I just mentioned her yesterday after Ilia did his flip on the ice. I yelled, “I thought you could not do those! My girl Surya Bonaly was put through it!”

Surya Bonaly was a revelation to me. The first time I saw that back flip and landing on **one foot** I was speechless with awe. It’s not hyperbole to say it was death defying! She’s a beautiful skater and unapologetically excellent. 💯

If ANY of us did that double jump she did so casually, we'd be sprawled out on the ice. Props for still having it 28 years later.

Surya was so much more of a compelling story on the ice than any of that "Tonya vs. Nancy" bullshit. The genuine innovators are remembered long after their competition days are over.

Surya is the GOAT! One of the most unforgettable figure skaters. One of the greatest things France ever gave to the world. And since her, no black person has competed at the Olympic level. SMH.... The sport needs another black skater BAD.
