According to the last census, over 76% of people in Ireland are Christian - not just Irish people but Polish, Romanian, Ukrainian, Georgian, Filipino etc. etc.. So why would anyone choose to represent the average Irish home maker as a Muslim woman to young children in school? Muslims make up about 1% of the population. What is the purpose of this? What is the potential impact on children? What does this say about Irish identity & culture? What does this DO to Irish identity & culture? Does this representation mean official Ireland or the Department of Education endorses the veiling of women? What message is this sending to our girls? Is it a good one? Why would Ireland seek to normalise the hijab when women in the Middle East are dying in protest against it? Who approved this & did they ask any of these questions?
