taegunv customize behind! 🧸 this is just a story but before i went to record the demo for customize, i actually asked taerae hyung to come with me. i felt like we needed taerae hyung for this demo to really bring out the right vibe. and the song is quite high too. so i asked him "i'm going to record a demo now can you come and do it with me?" and when taerae hyung asked "what will you give me?" i said "i'll buy you a meal" and he said "okay i'll be in touch," but he didn't contact me. so i went and did it by myself. that's why i ended up doing it alone.

Quick video on how I used claude code, icon composer, and my iOS app to make my app icon. I got a ton of questions about how I did it: It started with two questions: can you reshape the route to approximate a "p" more but like a character of a p not a real "p" as a test icon? "Can you give me a settings sheet where I can parametrically create The loop that I want to make... like, give me every possible parameter for the loop in the three d scene, and then make sure I can copy those values to you. And we could take that and implement it. I think that might be faster for me to be able to manipulate a p shaped loop."

One thing I wish I did differently when starting out with my cabinet shop was to leverage outsourcing and subcontractors more. I started my business in a 1-car garage at 24 yrs old. I was young, hungry, and felt I needed to prove a point so I committed to purchasing all the equipment I thought I needed to start a woodworking business. Nearly $200k spent in the first 6 months outfitting a 5,000 sf shop with only $15k coming in. I did have cash saved up so the initial investment did not include taking on a ton of debt. But it was a horrible way to allocate the funds. Unlike many trades-based business, it is uncommon to be able to rent equipment for a cabinet shop so I went all in on my own. However, you can 100% rent time on other shop's machines, buy out cabinet doors and drawer boxes, sub out finishing to a painter, sub out delivery, and install, etc. I did none of this when I started out. I bought all the equipment, manufactured all of the components, did all of the finishing, self-performed all deliveries, and did install myself. It was a total grind and it made managing cashflow a nightmare. I ended up becoming a shop other woodworkers paid to rent machine time and that covered a good portion of my bills years 1 & 2. It wasn't until 5 years in that I was beaten down enough by poor cashflow that I started to sub out delivery and installs. We still manufactured all components and did finishing in house as we were focused on high quality and customization and had tooled up in the process of settling in this niche. Which didn't make it economical to outsource with the equipment and staff I had. I don't regret doing things this way because I gained 20 years of experience in 10 years but it certainly made scaling a custom cabinet business 10x more difficult. Sure, the technical aspect of engineering, manufacturing, and installation had a steep learning curve but I loved every minute of that learning curve. The constant pressure that clouded my judgement and ultimately led to burnout was a poor cash conversion cycle and margin compression from equipment loans and overhead. I feel fortunate to have been able to put myself through the ringer for a decade and gained a ton of experience that I can now apply to the next venture but I sure am happy to have been able to exit that business financially unscathed. It was a nail biter nearly every day. The video below inspired this reflection and I think it's a great message to those just starting out with any business, not just excavating or the trades.

My dad loved Westerns and made me watch them. Never did I ever think, even for a millisecond, "Gee, 'The Searchers' needs more Asian-looking people helping John Wayne, so I can feel included." I have always viewed that type of thinking as being really insecure. How about just enjoying what was built and appreciating it as a human being?🤷‍♂️

This man applied for a job and was hired but told them he could start for 6 weeks because he wanted to do some traveling for leisure. But during the hiring process he had 72 hours to do a drug test which he failed to do. They cancelled his job offer and he feels it wasn’t because of the missed drug test, so what is he implying the reasoning behind it was then? Fresh out of college, that insurance gig was the first one I applied for and was hired for. Up until then I never had to take a drug test but then again why would I have? I didn’t do drugs on a normal basis anyways. But my best friends were pot heads. On the day before my drug test I was smoking a cigarette and my friend asked for a hit and I gave it to him. The other friend passed me a joint and I took it thinking it was my cigarette and I took a long dragged and almost coughed up a lung. I panicked, I just had taken a hit of pot when I had to be drug tested for a new job the next day. I went to the testing and did it, I got a call a few days later from HR confirming I passed and I told her I was worried because my friends smoke and I thought it would show up in my system as a second hand application. She said nah don’t worry, we only test for the hard stuff anyways. That part I didn’t know, but after that I saw my other buddies pass their work related tests too so maybe it was more widespread than I knew.

storytime with kai #1 ⭐️ 🐧 this one time…when we were doing the jacket shoot for ‘deja vu’…what was the name again? the concept where i’m wearing a headband, we filmed it outdoors…the one with the rockband vibes 🐧 we filmed it outdoors and we filmed it in january so it was really cold and since we kept moving, sweating and running…the way i remember it, we had a 3 day break after that shoot; i’m not kidding when i say that i was in bed for 3 days straight because i had a cold 🐧 it was really rough so i texted soobin hyung and was like “soobin hyung, please save me” so soobin hyung came to my room and gave me cold medicine and really helped me a lot…the cold medicine that soobin hyung gave me had an instant effect so it really helped a lot 🐧 at the time, we had 3 days off but i was really sick right from day 1 because i caught a cold…and it was snowing! it was actually snowing and i went to the convenience store for a bit because i needed to eat so i went to the convenience store to buy food and i was walking back like this with the food in my hand while getting hit by the snow so it really looked like a movie scene 🐧 it was a good memory…i already had a cold and i was sick but it got worse because i went out in the snow
