Justin Marks likes that teams can apply for a provisional for a driver from another form of motorsports to get a guaranteed 41st spot in a Cup race if the driver doesn't qualify naturally. Trackhouse is using that policy to guarantee Helio Castroneves a spot in the Daytona 500.

Wait. So drivers from other forms of motorsports can get in, but Mike Wallace can't get in? Is Nascar now using the Chiefs officiating crews to make these calls?

Ofcourse he likes it. It put his driver that has a good chance of wrecking half the field, into the biggest race of the year. WTF wouldn't he like it.

Yea he’s for it, you can sell guaranteed sponsorship. It’s a cash grab and publicity stunt… This is what nascar is now…luckily there are plenty of Motorsport viewing options these days for folks.

I still think it's quite hypocritical that @NASCAR wants drivers from other circuits to race stock cars but somehow needs a tube of @Vagisil when it comes to Larson racing the double.

Longtime independent NASCAR driver Phil Barkdoll died Tuesday at his home in Vinton, Iowa. He was 87. Barkdoll made 23 Cup starts as a superspeedway specialist and is best remembered as a fixture in Daytona 500 qualifying throughout the 80s and 90s. He made The Great American Race five years in a row from 1988 to 1992, with a best finish of 15th in 1989. Barkdoll qualified for the Daytona 500 for the final time in 1997, making a comeback after a battle with cancer to earn a spot in the starting field, but sold his ride to Joe Nemechek after his team failed to qualify themselves. Barkdoll ran time trials for the 1998 Daytona 500 then turned the car over to Mike Wallace, who made the field in Barkdoll's car and finished 23rd. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to the Stead Family Children’s Hospital at the University of Iowa.

Carlos: I think it depends on the domination of the team. I think the Mercedes years was a perfect example of them being so dominating that they could afford to fight each other a bit more. I think whenever their championship can go away to a different team, a different driver, you need to respect that and be a bit more careful. I think even if the teams don't say that, the drivers' championship is something that a team wants. 🗣️: Especially when the other driver is Max Verstappen. Carlos: It doesn't matter who the other driver is. If the other driver is called Pepe or Pepito, it doesn't matter. If that championship can go for the team and the driver, and you have two drivers fighting for it, and there's one guy that can take it, it doesn't matter if it's Carlos Sainz, Max Verstappen or Charles Leclerc.
