In a failed state, the destruction of property becomes almost inevitable. When governance turns predatory and the rule of law collapses, those in power often surrender authority to the streets, as is evident in this country. In Eastern DRC, militias such as Wazalendo are not only tolerated but actively encouraged to “defend the country” — a glaring symbol of complete state failure. Even more outrageously, government forces openly collaborate with the genocidal force — the FDLR — in broad daylight. That such unthinkable alliances endure with the backing of certain international actors, particularly Belgium, is a profound moral disgrace. It is all the more shocking when we recall that Europe once mobilized to eradicate Nazism, yet today, some of the same powers turn a blind eye — or worse, lend support — to a regime collaborating with genocidal forces. Some even attempt to minimize the threat by pointing to their numbers, as if the danger of a genocidal group lies merely in its size, rather than in the ideology and intent that drive it. This reality demands urgent international scrutiny and a complete rethinking of external support.

There are no winners in this conflict. The sooner the parties to this conflict realize that the better for the country.

This is why US companies won’t be too excited to invest significant capital in DRC! Kinshasa gov’t will find a reason to incite rioters to burn it down!
