The northern white rhino is officially extinct in the wild mainly because of humans. Poaching for their horns wiped out huge numbers, while farms and settlements destroyed the land they needed. The last male, Sudan, died in Kenya in 2018, leaving just two females, Najin and her daughter Fatu who now live at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya under 24/7 armed guard. They cannot naturally reproduce, so the subspecies is functionally extinct. Scientists are using IVF and frozen sperm to create embryos, with southern white rhinos as surrogates. You would never know this bunny has a massive obstruction in her gut and is in a life threatening condition right now. This is Anya I’m shaking because I’m so worried, she’ll be in intensive care tonight. Rabbits pretend to be ok because predators always target the weakest bunny in the warren. They can look fine while nursing the most horrific injuries. She wasn’t excited about her treats so I checked her over. Her belly was hard and swollen so I rushed her to the vet. Most people would look at her and have no idea she’s suffering and this is why they live on average a year when they should reach 15! Please be ok Anya. 😣

The first generation of DeePle is officially over! To those who minted—welcome! And to those who bought from the secondary market, you have my utmost respect. So... what’s next? I’d like to say this is just the beginning of an evolving project. There will be a second generation with fresh items and unique features, followed by a third, and more. I'm excited to dive deeper into the DeePleVerse and explore all its possibilities, and it would be an honor to have all of you along for the journey. Now, I’d like to share some thoughts and the vision behind this experimental yet fun art project. Over the past years, we’ve seen countless ups and downs, with beautiful and ugly moments unfolding simultaneously in web3. Here’s what I’ve learned along the way: 1/1s and Editions are fantastic for maintaining authenticity and scarcity, especially from incredible artists. However, they can feel too exclusive, making it difficult to build a larger community. On the other hand, PFPs are great for fostering a community, bringing people together around a shared belief. But they often lack the authenticity of fine art and can attract too much speculation. I’ve always wondered how we could bring the best of both worlds together. And that’s how DeePle was born—after much thought and exploration. I wanted to remove the gambling aspect, so there’s no reveal or rarity. I wanted collectors to have full control, allowing them to choose what to mint based on what they see. I also believe it’s crucial to strike the right balance between public and coordinated spots for the drop to avoid creating a speculative atmosphere. While I have some interesting ideas for the future, I’m never going to reveal what’s coming or use the word "roadmap" because I want to avoid creating unnecessary hype and making unrealistic promises. For now, I hope people find value in the experience and become part of the DeePleVerse. The goal is to build a genuine community, step by step, with each new round of drops, and to gradually bring in more people over time. None of this would have been possible without the Shape and Transient Labs. Shape created an impressive and efficient L2 chain that enables the complexity and functionality necessary for this project. And Transient Labs fully understood my vision, creating the perfect tool to bring DeePle to life. I’m incredibly excited for what’s ahead!

And that’s how DeePle was born—after much thought and exploration. I wanted to remove the gambling aspect, so there’s no reveal or rarity. I wanted collectors to have full control, allowing them to choose what to mint based on what they see. I also believe it’s crucial to strike the right balance between public and coordinated spots for the drop to avoid creating a speculative atmosphere. While I have some interesting ideas for the future, I’m never going to reveal what’s coming or use the word "roadmap" because I want to avoid creating unnecessary hype and making unrealistic promises. For now, I hope people find value in the experience and become part of the DeePleVerse. The goal is to build a genuine community, step by step, with each new round of drops, and to gradually bring in more people over time. None of this would have been possible without the Shape and Transient Labs. The Earth Has Something to Say Somewhere on the Namibian savanna, a herd of elephants stops. No signal you can hear. No movement you can see. They simply freeze, as if the world pressed a pause button. Then, almost imperceptibly, several of them lean forward onto their toes. They are listening. Just not with their ears. When an elephant rumbles, a replica of that sound is simultaneously transmitted through the ground, travelling as a seismic wave at roughly 250 meters per second. It is inaudible to us. It is inaudible, for that matter, to most of life on Earth. But an elephant is not most of life on Earth. The soles of an elephant’s feet contain densely packed Pacinian corpuscles, mechanoreceptors so sensitive they are thought capable of detecting movement as subtle as Brownian motion.  The tip of the trunk has them too. The animal is, in effect, a walking seismograph, designed by evolution over millions of years to read the planet’s whispers. Researcher Caitlin O’Connell-Rodwell first noticed this while watching herds at a watering hole in Etosha National Park in 1992. Suddenly the entire herd would freeze, ears flat to their heads, each enormous animal leaning forward on tiptoes, sometimes raising one foot.  This, she eventually realised, was not confusion. It was concentration. What makes it stranger still is that the system has a caller ID function. When O’Connell-Rodwell played back familiar alarm calls as seismic signals, the elephants froze and bunched together. When she played unfamiliar calls from Kenyan elephants, the same herd was entirely unbothered. They knew the voice. Through the ground. From kilometres away. Seismic waveforms produced by a running elephant can travel up to 32 kilometres, twice as far as the same animal’s airborne calls.  On a windy day, when sound scatters and distorts, the ground stays steady. The earth, it turns out, is an excellent telephone line. It has been there all along, faithfully carrying messages between animals that had the good sense to learn to read it. We built the internet. They figured out the planet.
