The US desperately needs more doctors, engineers & highly educated workers. But we’re telling students that if they want a higher education, they have to go into debt. Other countries understand how important it is to invest in their young people. We should be doing the same.

I’m proud to have secured an amendment in this year's NDAA requiring our service academies to accept the CLT as an admissions option. The lens to see Michigan's primary tonight is education. MI is -4% less college educated than the nation. El-Sayed's crushing it in "sheepskin counties" like Kent (41% college AES +26) & Washtenaw (59% college, AES +30), Stevens doing much better in Wayne (28% college, HS +8) & Monroe (23% college, HS +8). Watch that college/noncollege split in the general election. My take for CNN:

It’s astonishing that some question why we want to dismantle the Department of Education. Before its establishment, people weren’t this dumb. It’s mind blowing that people with actual degrees from universities are less educated than a typical third grader should be. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Education, more than income, signals class because it shapes habits, networks, and outlook long after the degree is earned. Higher education encodes cultural capital: speech patterns, tastes, opinions, and expectations about life. Income can fluctuate across a lifetime; the worldview forged in selective institutions does not. By that standard, college college graduates—regardless of earnings—are not working class.
