My opinion for what it is worth. It's a red card if he goes in for the ball and misses it then contacts the player. Yellow card if he wins the ball then momentum contacts the player. 2 very different scenarios.

Shocking challenge, kicking a ball and following through with minimal force. Last time I checked red was for dangerous and extreme challenges, yellow was for reckless. I see these challenges all the time by all team, this sport is just so pathetic with these decisions.
