Kamala Harris faced a unique challenge at NABJ. When she says something pro-Black, Republicans use it to convince white folk that she can’t be trusted. And when she says something less pro-Black, they get Black people to criticize her for not doing more.

@WordInBlack Would Republicans sue and block any legislation or policy that would be set aside specifically for Black people? Based on their response when Black farmers were set to receive billions in PPP funds, the answer is yes. Hence the tightrope that she has to walk.

@WordInBlack I’m going to keep asking this? Why didn’t they ask Donald Trump about reparations? You’ll need both chambers of congress to pass any such measure.

@WordInBlack She can't win for losing with some folks, but she has my full support. #HarrisWalz2024

@WordInBlack Exactly, because why ask her about Reparations and not ask Donald Trump about it⁉️

@WordInBlack It’s a great answer. I don’t believe that there’s 75% of the population that’s white. I think it’s about 65 or 64% & that’s one reason so many whits are for Trump;,because they’re afraid won’t be able to keep white supremacy. I’m a white liberal outside SF I believe reparations

@WordInBlack You are mostly correct. The white non-Hispanic population is only 58 percent, but I chose to use the overall white population of 75 percent to highlight the challenge.

You're so right on this. Of course, President Obama faced the same dilemma, as will any Black or minority person seeking positions normally reserved for Whites. Black journalists need to be smarter and realize that forcing Harris to respond to questions about reparations, BLM, Defund the Police, police brutality, or other issues that are sure to incur White blowback isn't helpful in getting Blacks elected to national offices. If we put our leaders in untenable positions that lead to their defeat, what have we accomplished? Platitudes on popular black issues won't get us anywhere if there's no plan that can get through a majority white congress. Some things are better left in-house.

@WordInBlack Brother @keithboykin this was a masterclass in election strategy gumbo with a pinch of Salt and 👊🏾fist full of a bay leaves of reality!!

@WordInBlack Keith, thanks for taking the time to explain - AGAIN - to the uninformed about #Reparations. HR40 passes when, and only when, there's a POTUS and an OVERWHELMING majority of like-minded elected officials in both chambers of Congress. And then, it still isn't a sure thing. #vote

@WordInBlack Same with Obama. When he said Trayvon Martin could’ve been his son, Republican lost their shit. When he said he wasn’t president just for black people, black people lost their shit. I guess this the price you pay for being black wanting to be POTUS in a racially divided country
