In March 2004, Kanye West was filming the music video for “Jesus Walks” in Los Angeles when he was pranked for the show Punk’d. A fake city official arrived at the set and told Kanye the production was illegal and had to be shut down immediately. The actor playing the official demanded that Kanye hand over the film they had already shot that day. Instead of cooperating, Kanye grabbed the film canisters and ran to a nearby production van to protect his work. He tried to drive away to save the footage, forcing host Ashton Kutcher to chase the vehicle on foot to reveal the joke. Kanye was clearly frustrated but relieved once he realized his footage wasn’t actually being confiscated.
